VEPT Data Collection: Test Instructions & CDT Installation Steps

This document describes the Versant English Placement Test (VEPT)

Collection Test and how to install the Computer Delivered Test (CDT) client on
your computer. Please read this document carefully before taking the tests.
Things you need to take VEPT:
Two Test Identification Numbers (TINs) from the recruiter
A Windows-based computer
A USB headset with a microphone or good built-in microphone
A quiet testing environment
I. Test Instruction
You will receive two TINs from the recruiter and take two VEPT Data
Collection Tests (about 50 minute for each test). You must be 18
years old or older. You can take the two tests at two separate times (e.g.,
within the same day or two different days).
Once the test begins, you should NOT quit the test in the middle. The TIN
will no longer be valid as soon as the test starts. It is therefore critical
to reserve one hour for each test.
The two tests you have to take will have the same test structure, as
summarized below.

You must
take the
test
seriously in a quiet environment. A Computer-Delivered Test (CDT)
Program needs to be installed prior to taking the tests. We have staff to
check each call in order to monitor the seriousness of test-takers.
Unserious tests will not get paid.

Before you start the test, please provide your demographic information
regarding age, gender, first language, country of origin, highest

to your recruiter. Your demographic information will be confidentially stored
and will be used only for research purposes.
II. Installing CDT

Pearsons website onto all of the computers that you plan to use for Versant

Follow these steps for each computer:
1. Go to http://www.versanttest.com/technology/platforms/cdt/
2. Click to download the CDT Client application (approx. 10 MB
download).
3. When the dialogue box appears, select Run to download and install
CDT on the computer.
4. Click Next in each of the following dialog boxes until the installation is
completed.
5. Once installation of the CDT client is complete, an icon will
automatically appear on your desktop and in the Start Menu.
III. How to Take a Test on CDT
1. Enter your 8-digit TIN. When finished, click the button Enter.

2. Check that your headset and microphone are plugged in, configured
properly, and that the sound and volume are turned on and up.
3. Follow the instructions for the audio check
to ensure your computer can play the test
audio at an acceptable level for completing
the test.
4. For the speaking part of the test, follow the instructions to
check that your microphone is functioning
properly.

IV. Complete a Test and Report to Recruiter
