Committee Recruitment Week Recap

BY ELISABETH MCFARLAND MEDIA RELATIONS SUBCHAIR
With another Committee Recruitment Week in the
books, Executive Director Meagan Barger believed the
week was a great success.
Looking around the Pit, there were always really
amazing conversations happening, Barger said. I felt
like we connected really well with students as well as our
cause.
CFTK recruited 460 committee members during CRW.
One thing that made CRW different than in years past
was the addition of the Technology Committee.
CFTK has the advantage of having a committee for
each persons talents to be valued and used, so adding
the Technology Committee is just one more way that we
can use the specialized talents that the student body has
to offer, Barger said.
CRW attracts both new and returning members to
participate in the largest student-run nonprofit in N.C.
Sophomore Madison Pleasants was a dancer in the
2015 Marathon, but decided to apply to be on a committee
this year. Shes excited to meet the people who run CFTK.

I realized how much of an impact CFTK made after

I did the Marathon last year, and I decided I wanted to
be a bigger part of this impact as a committee member,
Pleasants said. Plus, they all seem really cool.

WoW! What a Success!

BY HALEY WAXMAN PUBLICITY CHAIR

Since returning to campus in

August, Carolina For The Kids has
certainly hit the ground running.
Within the first week of school, CFTK
hosted two Week of Welcome events
events in conjunction with Tar Heel
Beginnings.
The first WoW event, Snacks and
Crafts FTK, planned by Entertainment
Chair Megan Fullarton, drew a great
crowd. At this event, students put
together craft kits for patients at
UNC Childrens, in addition to making
cards and blankets for families to
enjoy at the Hospital.
This was a great way for new and
returning students to learn about
our organization and our cause,
while doing something that will really
bring a smile to the patients at UNC
Childrens, Fullarton said.
The UNC Walk-Ons dropped by
the event and provided quite the
soundtrack to build craft kits to.
We wanted to include the WalkOns at this event because they are

such a fun performing group, and it

gives potential committee members
and dancers a taste of all the
awesome performances they will see
at the Marathon, Fullarton said.
The second event was held in
conjunction with Week of Welcomes
Day of Service. For this event, CFTK
and Helping Paws teamed up to
provide service-oriented activities to
welcome students to campus.
Hospital and Family Relations
Chair Chelsea Krivanek said she was
extremely pleased with the .
It was very exciting to see so many
new students who are so enthusiastic
about getting involved with service
on campus, Krivanek said.
Week of Welcome proved to be a
very successful week for Carolina For
The Kids. Between FallFest and the
two WoW events, CFTK interacted
with nearly 1,000 students, starting
this year off on a wonderful note.

For the Kids Story

Caroline was admitted for surgery at N.C.

Childrens Hospital because of her severe
developmental delays. Her mother, who adopted
her as a baby, accompanied her. The family does
their best to meet the girls special needs, but their
finances are tight. One parent always stays at home
with their 8-year-old daughter, so both parents
cannot work. The For the Kids Fund provided
the family with meal tickets, making for a more
comfortable stay in the hospital while the daughter
recovered.
