JustasyourIBMiuserprofilecanbedisabledfromsigningontothesystemafterasetnumberof
incorrectsignonattempts,thesystemcanalsoautomaticallydisableyouruserprofilefromIBM
iNetServeraccessafteryouexceedthemaximumnumberofsignonattemptswhentryingto
accessaNetServerfileshare.
Here'swhatprobablyhappenedandthethreewaysyoucanfixit.
WhyYouLostNetServerFileShareAccess
First,whenyoutriedtosetupyourNetServermappeddrive,youprobablyaccidentallyfedan
invalidpasswordtotheNetServerserveroneormoretimes(thepasswordforaccessinga
NetServerfileshareisthesamepasswordyouuseforyourIBMiuserprofile).Thesystemstarted
countingthenumberofinvalidsignonattemptsyouperformedandcompareditagainstthe
MaximumSignOnAttemptsAllowed(QMAXSIGN)systemvalue.Whenyouexceededthe
QMAXSIGNvalue,itdisabledyouruserprofile'saccessforNetServerfileshareaccessonly.
Youwouldhaveretainedyourabilitytosignontothesystembutyoulostyourabilitytoaccess
aNetServerfileshare.
YoucanverifythatyouruserprofileNetServeraccessisdisabledbycheckingforthefollowing

ReenablingNetServerAccess
Therearethreemethodsyoucanusetoreenableauserprofile'sNetServeraccess.Twoofthese
methodscanbefoundinsideIBMiNavigator/SystemiNavigator/iSeriesAccessNavigator
(collectivelyandlovinglyreferredtoasOpsNav),andoneisaccessedthrougha5250green
screencommand.
1.StopandrestarttheNetServerserver.RestartingNetServerwillreenablealltheuserIDsthat
arecurrentlydisabledforNetServeraccess.DothisbyclickingonNetworkServersTCP/IP
fromtherootofyourtargetIBMibox.IntherighthandpaneoftheTCP/IPserversscreen,right
clickoni5/OSNetServer,andselectStopfromthepopupmenuthatappears.YourOpsNav
screenwilllooksomethinglikethis.

2.ReenabletheNetServerDisabledUserIDthroughOpsNav.InsidetheOpsNavi5/OS
NetServerentry,thereisaspecificoptionforworkingwithdisabledNetServerUserIDs.As
before,clickontheNetworkServersTCP/IPnodefromtherootofyourtargetboxin
OpsNav.Rightclickonthei5/OSNetServerentryintherighthandpaneofthescreenandselect
DisabledUserIDsfromthepopupmenuthatappears.Thisoptionwillshowalistofdisabled
NetServeruserIDs,similartothisone.

PickouttheuserIDthatyouwanttoreenableforNetServeraccessandclickontheEnableUser
IDbuttononthisscreen.ThiswillallowthatuserprofiletoonceagainaccessyourNetServer
shares.
3.ReenablethedisabledNetServerUserprofilebyusingtheChangeUserProfile
(CHGUSRPRF)command.Ifyouhaveaccesstoagreenscreen,thisistheeasiestwaytore
enableyourprofileforNetServeraccess.SimplyrunthefollowingCHGUSRPRFwithoutany
parametersandyourprofilewillbereenabledforNetServerusage.
CHGUSRPRFUSRPRF(user_id)

Whereuser_idequalstheuserprofilename,youarereenablingforNetServeraccess.Entering
theCHGUSRPRFcommandresetstheuserprofileforNetServerwithoutchanginganyother
userprofileparameters.
ThereisonedrawbacktousingtheCHGUSRPRFcommandtoreenableNetServerindividual
useraccess.Aftertheuserprofileisreenabled,itmaystillshowupinthelistofOpsNav
disabledNetServerprofilesshowninpoint#2,eventhoughtheprofilehasbeenreenabledfor
NetServer.Sobewareofthatlimitationifyouusethismethod.
