Save Water for Future

Water is one of the most essential elements on the Earth. Many scientists
believe that water is the main reason why there has life on the Earth. Most of the
archaeologists also suppose that the water has shaped human civilization since the
beginning of humankind. At the early of civilization, human built their community
near the water as they could obtain the basic needs in order to sustain their life. As
we can see, water plays an important role to lead human move forward until today.
The surface of the earth is covered by two thirds of water and human body is
consisting of 75 percent of it. It is obvious that water is crucial for all living
organisms to continue their life as they require it to carry out daily metabolisms.
Apart from drinking water for survive, we also utilise it for doing household
activities such as bathing, washing, cooking, watering plants and etc. On other
hand, most of the marine lives need the water to support their weights and all the
green plants use water to carry out photosynthesis to produce food.
However, with the high-rise of modern lifestyle that practiced by human,
water nowadays is not as clean as previous. Pollution of water now becomes a big
threat to people around the world. Citing the latest research from UN-Water, twothirds of the worlds population may face water shortages by 2025.

Apparently,

water pollution at present has reached a critical stage that beyond peoples
imagination. Therefore, being a caring and responsible of water user, we have to
proactive and save water for our coming generation.

There are some simple measures we can practise to save our water. First, we
must always remember to turn off the tap after we has finished using the water. Do
not leave the tap running because this will cause plenty of water being wasted
within minutes. Besides, switch the water tap off tightly to prevent water leaks out
from the tap. Make sure that the water taps in house and buildings like school are
all in good condition. Report to parent or teacher if we found any water tap was
spoilt or could not function well. Ask a technician to replace the broken tap
immediately to prevent any further loss of water. The problem of broken tap should
be solved in time because it may bring a great inconvenient to us.
Every one of us needs to brush the teeth at least twice in a day to keep our
mouth cavity clean. However, many of us used to let the water running from the tap
to rinse our mouth when we are brushing. This terrible habit will lead to a great
amount of water being wasted if we keep on practising it as routine. But now, we
can dump this worry by taking just a simple step. We can use a cup which
approximately 500 millilitre to fill the water for us to rinse after we have brushed
our teeth. For this reason, we will only use the water that is necessary and then
save the water.
How long do you take your shower? If we take a leisurely shower in
everyday, we may use a lot of water that actually we do not need to. Thus, we
should take a shorter shower in order to cut down the spending of water. A quick
shower can enable us to save water and time too. Besides, do not forget to turn off
the tap when we are soaping up and then turn it back to clean the body. By doing
this, we can minimise the waste of water.

When we are going to wash our laundry, make sure that the washing
machine is fully loaded for conservation of water. If we just put a few of clothes into
the washing machine, some part of the water will be wasted because it is not
maximised to be used. Apart from that, check the washing machine whether it is
broken or out of date because the old machine may be spent more water to
function. Send the broken machine to repair or buy a new washing machine which
is water-saving. The new washing machines on the market now are much efficient
than the old one.
Malaysia has a tropical rainforest climate. It is hot and humid throughout the
year. According to the resources, Peninsular Malaysia receives average rainfall of
2500 mm while East Malaysia thrives in 5080 mm of rain in a year. This information
shows that the average of rainfall in Malaysia is high.

Hence, we should utilise the rain

water wisely which is free. When there is raining, use the pails to collect the rain water because
it can be very useful. For examples, we can use the rain water to wash the dirty gardening tools
and pots. We can also use the rain water to clean the plastic containers, boxes, tables and
shelves. Moreover, we can use rain water to flush the toilet instead of using the clean tap water.
Anyway, there still have a pile of things we can do with rain water, so we should appreciate as
we live in Malaysia.
We all take water for granted. Many people think that water is not valuable
as they can obtain it with ease. Open the tap, and water runs down. It is just
simple. For a detestable example, the Songkran festival (traditional water pouring
activity) is celebrated in Thailand as traditional New Years Day from 13 to 15 April

annually. The authorities will distribute 100,000 bottles of water to people who join
the festival. But what make it worse is, it will be 100,000 more litres of water
wasted. Let us imagine that what if the 100,000 more litres of water is sent to
Africa.
The government should take initiative to reinforce the laws in order to
protect the water from being polluted and wasted by the irresponsible people. The
hefty fines should give to the people who break the laws. Apart from that, the
government also has obligation to retreat the polluted water so that it can be used
and solve the scarcity of water. In fact, every water user should play their role to
conserve water for future. After hundred years or even thousand years, our
grandson still will depend on the water to continue the civilization. So, save water,
start from us, for the future!
