o Trinity GESE Exam Changes for 2010 – 13 Syllabus

Grades 1-3
o “exchange of information on familiar matters to do with work and freetime”

o Add: Phrases and expressions relating to the list of language functions
o Examination Procedure - At Grades 2 and up, the candidate asks
examiner at least one simple question during the examination.

Grade 1

o Add: Basic intonation patterns for simple Questions
o Remove completely - The appropriate stress for short form answers e.g. yes, I

Grade 3

simple questions

Elementary Stage: Grades 4-6
o Change to: (for Grade 5 +)The examiner begins by greeting …and asking to
see the candidate’s identification

Intermediate Stage: Grades 7-9


o Change to: The examiner begins by greeting …and asking to see the
candidate’s identification
o Add: During the conversation phase, the candidate and examiner share
responsibility for the maintenance of the interaction
o Remove : Initiate the discourse, Add: Take control over the interaction
Grades 7
o Remove - Expressions of agreement & disagreement
o Add: Maintain the discourse by … and making comments
Grades 8
o Change to: Be prepared to ask and answer questions about … and the
examiner’s views on the topic
