INTRODUCTORY RITES
Entrance Antiphon (Is 61:10)
I exult for joy in the Lord, my
soul rejoices in my God; for he
has clothed me in the garment
of salvation and robed me in
the cloak of justice, like a bride
adorned with her jewels.
Greeting

(The sign of the cross is made here)

P Praised be God the Father

who prepared the Virgin Mar y
to be the worthy mother of his
Son, Jesus Christ. May the Lords
blessings be with you all.
All And also with you.
Introduction
P Dear sisters and brothers:
In the midst of our Advent
preparation for the birth of Jesus,
we celebrate the solemnity of the
Immaculate Conception of the
Blessed Virgin Mar y, principal
patroness of the Philippines.
We focus our eyes on Mary, the
woman God has chosen to be
the mother of the Savior. Our
Ladys feast reminds us that God
keeps his promise of overcoming
evil. He sends us the Savior who
redeems his people from their
sins. And as part of the divine plan,
in anticipation of this redemption,
Mary is conceived free from the
stain of sin so that she will be a
worthy mother of the Savior.
As Mar y lived up to her Immaculate Conception, listening to
the word of God and keeping it,
so we are challenged to continue
living up to that privilege given to
her for our sake.
Penitential Rite
P Paul writes that God chose
us to be holy and without blemish
before him. Have we, like Mary,
responded to Gods grace? Let us
examine ourselves. (Pause)
P Lord Jesus, you are the
Offspring of the woman who will
overcome the evil one: Lord, have
mercy.
All Lord, have mercy.
P Lord Jesus, no stain of
Adams sin touched the Virgin
Mary because she was chosen to
bear you: Christ, have mercy.
All Christ, have mercy.
P Lord Jesus, in the fullness of
time you were born of a woman

and became like us in all things

except sin: Lord, have mercy.
All Lord, have mercy.
P May almighty God have
mercy on us, forgive us our sins,
and bring us to everlasting life.
All Amen.
Gloria
All Glor y to God in the
highest, and peace to his people
on earth. Lord God, heavenly
King, almighty God and Father,
we worship you, we give you
thanks, we praise you for your
glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only
Son of the Father, Lord God,
Lamb of God, you take away the
sin of the world: have mercy on
us; you are seated at the right
hand of the Father: receive our
prayer. For you alone are the
Holy One, you alone are the
Lord, you alone are the Most
High, Jesus Christ, with the
Holy Spirit, in the glory of God
the Father. Amen.
Opening Prayer
P Let us pray [that through
the prayers of the sinless Virgin
Mary, God will free us from our
sins]. (Pause)
Father, you prepared the Virgin
Mar y to be the worthy mother
of your Son. You let her share
beforehand in the salvation Christ
would bring by his death, and kept
her sinless from the first moment
of her conception. Help us by her
prayers to live in your presence
without sin.
We ask this through our Lord
Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives
and reigns with you and the Holy
Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
All Amen.
LITURGY OF
THE WORD
First Reading [Gn 3:9-15, 20] (Sit)
The First Reading describes the consequence of our first parents fall. By
succumbing to the temptation of the
serpent which symbolizes evil, Adam
and Eve bring their descendants out
of Gods grace. Still, the Lord does
not abandon humankind: a new Eve
will bring forth an offspring who will
overcome evil.

Where are you? He answered, I

heard you in the garden; but I was
afraid, because I was naked, so I
hid myself.
Then he asked, Who told you
that you were naked? You have
eaten, then, from the tree of which
I had forbidden you to eat! The
man replied, The woman whom
you put here with meshe gave
me fruit from the tree, and so I ate
it. The Lord God then asked the
woman, Why did you do such a
thing? The woman answered,
The serpent tricked me into it,
so I ate it.
Then the Lord God said to the
serpent: Because you have done
this, you shall be banned from all
the animals and from all the wild
creatures; on your belly shall you
crawl, and dirt shall you eat all the
days of your life. I will put enmity
between you and the woman, and
between your offspring and hers;
he will strike you at your head,
while you strike at his heel.
The man called his wife Eve,
because she became the mother
of all the living.
The word of the Lord.
All Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm (Ps 98)
R Sing to the Lord a new
song, for he has done marvelous deeds.
1. Sing to the Lord a new song,/
for he has done wondrous deeds;/
his right hand has won victory for
him,/ his holy arm. (R)
2 . The L o r d has made his
salvation known:/ in the sight of
the nations he has revealed his
justice./ He has remembered his
kindness and his faithfulness/
toward the house of Israel. (R)
3. All the ends of the earth have
seen/ the salvation by our God./
Sing joyfully to the Lord, all you
lands;/ break into song; sing
praise. (R)
Second Reading
(Eph 1:3-6, 11-12)
Paul speaks of how God chose his holy
ones in Christ before the foundation
of the world. The apostle pictures for
us how God prepared Mary for her
role as mother of the Savior.

Gospel (Lk 1:26-38)
P The Lord be with you.
All And also with you.
P A reading from the holy
Gospel according to Luke.
All Glory to you, Lord.
THE ANGEL Gabriel was sent
from God to a town of Galilee
called Nazareth, to a virgin
betrothed to a man named Joseph,
of the house of David, and the
virgins name was Mar y. And
coming to her, he said, Hail, full
of grace! The Lord is with you.
But she was greatly troubled
at what was said and pondered
what sort of greeting this might
be. Then the angel said to her, Do
not be afraid, Mary, for you have
found favor with God. Behold, you
will conceive in your womb and
bear a son, and you shall name
him Jesus. He will be great and
will be called Son of the Most
High, and the Lord God will give
him the throne of David his father,
and he will rule over the house of
Jacob forever, and of his kingdom
there will be no end.
But Mar y said to the angel,
How can this be, since I have no
relations with a man?
And the angel said to her in
reply, The holy Spirit will come
upon you, and the power of the
Most High will overshadow you.
Therefore the child to be born will

All Praise to you, Lord Jesus
Christ.
Homily (Sit)
All I believe in God, the Father
Almighty, Creator of heaven and
earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his
only Son, our Lord. He was
conceived by the power of the
Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin
Mary. He suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, died, and
was buried. He descended to the
dead. On the third day, he rose
again. He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of
the Father. He will come again
to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the for giveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body, and
the life everlasting. Amen.
