engineeringinthecontextofthelumpedcircuitabstraction.Topicscoveredinclude:resistive
elementsandnetworks;independentanddependentsources;switchesandMOStransistors;
digitalabstraction;amplifiers;energystorageelements;dynamicsoffirstandsecondorder
networks;designinthetimeandfrequencydomains;andanaloganddigitalcircuitsand
applications.Designandlabexercisesarealsosignificantcomponentsofthecourse.
Materialstaughtin6.002xareequivalenttothosetaughtin6.002.AtMIT,6.002isinthecore
ofdepartmentsubjectsrequiredforallundergraduatesinElectricalEngineeringandComputer
Science.
1. Prerequisites
Inordertosucceedinthiscourse,studentsmusthavetakenanAdvancedPlacement(AP)
levelphysicscourseinelectricityandmagnetism.Studentsmustknowbasiccalculusand
linearalgebra,andhavesomebackgroundindifferentialequations.AtMIT,theequivalent
course6.002requires18.03andoneof8.02and6.01.Allthreecoursescanbefoundon
MITOpenCourseWare.
2. CourseOverview
Thecourseisorganizedbyweeks.Tokeeppacewiththeclass,youareexpectedto
completealltheworkbytheduedatesindicated.Homeworkandlabsmustbecompleted
bytheTuesdayoftheweekfollowingtheoneinwhichtheyareposted.Weeklycoursework
includes:
Interactivevideosequences;
Readingsfromthetextbook;
Homework;
Onlinelaboratories;
Tutorials.
Thecoursewillalsohaveamidtermexamandafinalexam.Thosewhosuccessfullyearn
enoughpointswillreceiveanhonorcodecertificatefromMITx.
3. Interactivevideosequences
Lecturestylevideosarepresentedininteractivevideosequences(orsequencesforshort),
andarepostedintheCoursewaresectionofthewebsite.Eachsequenceincludesa
successionofshortvideoclipsandonlineexercises,arrangedinalogicalprogression.Two
sequenceswillbegiveneachweek;pleasetakethetimetowatcheachvideoandeach
exerciseinthesequencetheyareprovided.Answercheckmechanismsareprovidedin
theseexercises,buttheywillnotcontributetowardsyourgrade.

5. Homework&OnlineLaboratories
Avarietyofinterestingcircuitanalysisproblemswillbeassignedashomework.Those
problemsbestillustratedthroughexperimentationaregivenasonlinelaboratories(orlabs
forshort).Homeworkandlabswillbeissuedatthestartofeachweek,intheCourseware
sectionundertheircorrespondingweeks.
Homeworkandlabsmustbecompletedbytheduedatespecifiedonthecalendar.Late
submissionsinanyformatwillnotbeaccepted.
Whilecollaborationiswelcomedandencouraged,youarenotallowedtopostfullsolutions.
6. Tutorials
Tutorialsareconversationalstepbystepvideosdesignedtoteachyouhowtosolvethe
circuitproblemsthatareencounteredthroughout6.002x.Severaltutorialsareissuedeach
week,eacheitherworkingthrougharelevantproblemorillustratinganinteresting
principle.
Thetutorialswillnotcovernewmaterials,andinthissensetheycanbeconsidered
optional.However,theydoprovideaninvaluablereinforcementofconceptscoveredduring
thesequencesandthehomework,andwehighlyrecommendthatyoutakethetimeto
watcheachtutorial.
7. MidtermandFinalExam
Asignificantportionofyourfinalgradein6.002xwillbedeterminedbythemidtermand
thefinalexam.Wewillannouncewiththeexamsthedeadlinebywhichyoumustcomplete
them.Exercises,homeworkandlabsarecriticaltolearningthematerialandfordoingwell
ontheexams.Itisverylikelythatoneormoreoftheexercise,homeworkorlabproblems
willappearineachoftheexams.
Onceyouviewanexam,youmustworkonyourownuntilyouhavesubmittedallyour
work,anddonotdiscusstheexamuntilthedeadlineforexamsubmissionsispast.While
theexamswillbeopenbook,weencourageyoutocreateacoupleofsheetsofnotesfor
eachexam.Thesenoteswillnotonlyhelpyouprepare,buttheywillalsoserveasa
convenientreferenceduringtheexam.Youmayuseacalculatorifneeded.
Youarenotallowedtopostanswerstoexamproblems.Collaborationofanyformisstrictly
forbiddeninthemidtermandthefinalexams.
8. DiscussionForum
Wewillprovideadiscussionforumonourwebsiteforallstudentsof6.002x.Youmayuse
theseforumstodiscusscourseconcepts,problemsolvingapproaches,interesting
references,oranythingelsethatmaybeofinterest.Youmayjustuseittoaskquestions.
Pleaseobservetheappropriateonlineetiquetteandbecourteoustoyourfellowstudents
whenusingthediscussionforum.Theforumismoderatedbycoursestaff.
Coursestaffwillbeavailableatperiodictimeslotstoanswerquestionsonthediscussion
forum.AscheduleofthetimeslotswillbepostedinaseparatedocumentundertheCourse
Infotab.
9. Grading
Lettergradeswillbebasedonthefollowingweighting:
Homework:15%
Labs:15%
Midterm:30%
Finalexam:40%
Eachofthehomeworkandlabscarriesequalweight.Youwillneedtogetatotalmarkof
60%foraC,70%foraB,and87%foranA.
Homeworkandlabswillbegradedbasedonthebesttenoutoftwelveindividualgrades.
Therefore,twohomeworkassignmentsandtwolabsmaybemissedintotalwithoutagrade
penalty.
