GHS Trust receives gift in memory of Wallace Johnson

Marjorie (Johnson) Bollinger
and Gerald Bollinger recently
made a gift to the Glasgow
High School Educational Trust
in memory of Marjories father,
Wallace L. Johnson of Fort Peck,
to support Glasgow students

at the college level. Wallace L.

Johnson served as a lineman for
Western Area Power for many
years.

For over 51 years, donations
like the Bollingers have enabled
the trust to grow its corpus to over

$5 million dollars. The interest

it has earned has been used to
award 2,074 grants valued over
$1.7 million dollars to hundreds
of GHS alumni pursuing higher
education.

Both traditional students attending classes on
campus and nontraditional students completing
their studies online or through correspondence
courses have received assistance. The primary
consideration for grant recipients has always
been financial need. Students in every field of
vocational/technical school and college are given
equal consideration if they are full-time students in
good academic standing, making steady progress
towards a degree, and fulfill other requirements
listed on the application, available on the trusts
website at www.ghsedutrust.org.
The deadline for grants for the Spring 2016
semester is October 15, 2015, and all eligible GHS
alumni are strongly encouraged to apply.
Whenever the trust receives donations that
total $500 or more in honor, recognition, or
memory of a particular individual, a gift is made
to a student or to GHS in that persons name.
Donations of $10,000 or more, entitle the donor to
an annual naming opportunity in perpetuity.

The Glasgow High School Educational Trust is
honored to add the name of Wallace L. Johnson
to its permanent list. The first gift in his memory
was given to Laurel Wageman, an economics major
with a finance minor at Montana State UniversityBozeman for the 2015-2016 academic year.
The equipment and programs that the trust
purchases for GHS benefit all students by offering
opportunities that cannot be financed within the
schools regular budget. Every department of GHS
has received grants, which to date total $205,055.03
in value. The community at large also benefits
from these purchases when it attends events at the
school or uses its facilities.

The Northeast Montana Veterans Memorial Park is located in the center of Fort Peck where the flag pole used to be (it is now behind center field of Johnny Hahn Softball Field). It is
hoped the project will be complete by Veterans Day on November 11th. LSC, Inc., was pouring the final wall on the second tier today and it will continue skyward with the peak in the
days ahead. While The Fort Peck Summer Theatre draws thousands of visitors each summer, tourists will now have yet another added attraction besides the Fort Peck Interpretive
Center, the Fort Peck Fish Hatchery and, of course, the recreational opportunities that Fort Peck Reservoir offers, that being the Northeast Montana Veterans Memorial Park.

FWP releases hunting outlooks

2015 ANTELOPE OUTLOOK Montana antelope
populations are continuing to recover and grow from
previous years' winter kills and low fawn numbers in
central and eastern Montana.

This year, there are even a few more special licenses
available reflecting that improving status. Successful
antelope-license applicants may recognize increased
fawn production in many areas as populations respond
to this year's favorable weather and habitat conditions.

Montana's antelope archery season will close Oct.
9. The general rifle season for antelope will run Oct. 10Nov. 8.
As always, FWP wildlife biologists and game
warders will be operating hunter check-stations
throughout the state to collect biological information
and ensure regulations are followed. All hunters are
required to stop at check stations.

In Region 6, antelope numbers are still below long term
averages here but are continuing to rebound. Although
license numbers remain low, hunters lucky enough to draw
a tag should have good success in filling it.

2015 ELK OUTLOOK These are good times for
elk hunters as Montana elk populations continue to be
strong across most of the state.
In some areas of western Montana, where
populations have declined, wildlife biologists have
recently observed increased recruitment of calves.
In many hunting districts, however, access to
private lands can be difficult, which can affect hunting
success given landownership patterns and distribution
of elk.

Montana's archery season for elk will close Oct. 18.
The general, five-week long, elk-hunting season runs
Oct. 24 through Nov. 29.

Even if you didn't draw a special permit this year,
remember Montana offers numerous opportunities
to hunt for elk with just a general hunting license.
Depending on the hunting district regulations hunters
can pursue brow-tined bull elk, spike bull elk, either-sex
elk, or antlerless elk.

FWP wildlife biologists and game wardens will be
operating hunter check-stations throughout the state to
collect biological information and ensure regulations
are followed. All hunters are required to stop at check
stations.

In Region 6, Elk numbers remain at or above
management objectives in most hunting districts. All elk

hunting in the Bears Paw Mountains and the Missouri

River Breaks is by special permits awarded via the
annual drawing. Elk in these areas are most often found
in core-habitat areas a mile or more from active roads
and other human activity. Elk densities are lower in the
general-season hunting area north of U.S. Highway 2.

2015 DEER OUTLOOK Hunters who witnessed
a drop in mule deer numbers in many areas of Montana
a few years ago will see improving populations this year
as favorable weather and habitat conditions kicked in
during 2014 and 2015.
Additionally, in many areas of the state, fawn
recruitment has been excellent and populations are
doing well.
Even if you didn't draw a special permit this year,
remember Montana offers numerous opportunities
to hunt for deer with just a general hunting license.
Montana's archery season for deer will close Oct. 18. The
general deer season opens Oct. 24 and ends Nov. 29.
FWP wildlife biologists and game warders will be
operating hunter check-stations throughout the state to
collect biological information and ensure regulations are
followed. All hunters are required to stop at check stations.

In Region 6, mule deer numbers are at or above
long term averages in the eastern half of the region and
at or below long term averages in the western half. In
general, mule deer hunters can expect to see more mule
deer as compared to recent years.
White-tailed deer numbers have continued to
lag behind mule deer due to EHD outbreaks in 2011,
2012 and 2013. Nonetheless, very good fawn numbers
for both white-tailed deer and mule deer have been
observed across the region this summer.
For more information on Montana's five-week
long general hunting season, visit FWP's website at
fwp.mt.gov, click "Hunting" then click Plan Your Hunt.
