PIPING FLUSHING PROCEDURE

Dwg B253-PCP-PB-17 Rev. 1 Page of
1.

General:

Upon completion of fabrication and installation, all new piping system shall be flush with test
medium to ensure that all piping internally is free from debris, rags, welding rods
and etc before hydrostatic/pneumatic testing can be done. See attach B253
system flushing plan for system to be flush/blow.

The flush pack must include equipment data and detail drawing on how the pipe to be flush must
be submitted 2 days before the actual test for ATL review and approval.

2.

Flushing Equipment:
External pump for pumping water into piping system.
Hydro-jet. (Equipment data see flush pack)
Pipe blank/valve for blanking all pipe ends that need to be flush.
External compressed airline for blow out.
Vent line with valve to release air trap.

3.

Preliminary check
3.1 Line Survey
An initial line survey should take place prior to any pipe to be flush/hydro-jet to confirm
readiness for flushing/hydro-jetting.
3.2 Preparation before flushing/hydro-jetting:
All joints, including welds and bonds are to be left uninsulated and exposed for examination,
except that joints previously flush/hydro-jet and examined may be insulated or covered.
Make sure all open-end pipe is blank.
Tail pipe to provide valve/opening device so that fresh water can flow out quickly.
Ensure flushing fresh water can flow out of tank, compartment and etc. To prevent flooding.
3.3 The following equipment shall isolate from the pipe before flushing:
Pumps, Compressor, Rupture discs, Relief valves, Pressure reducing valves, Flow meters,
instrument & instrument piping shall not be included in the flushing. Equipment shall either
disconnect from the piping or isolate by blinds or other means before flushing.
Removed all instrumentation isolation valve and plug.
3.4 Valves are to be flush:
All valves (Ball, Butterfly, and Gate) shall be completely open during flushing.
Check valves shall be blocked open or removed from the line.
3.5 Venting and Drains:
High point vents with valve shall be provided for venting when filling water to the system and
low point drains shall be provided for system blow down after flushing.
3.6 Flushing Area & Safety :
Flushing equipment including pumps, gauges, and other items shall be located in the same area.
Areas involved in flushing shall be barriers off and have signs posted for indication.

4.

Procedure for flushing:

Flushing fluid shall be clean, clear fresh water and shall not contain suspended solids which may
plug small lines.

5.

Fill pipes with fresh water from the top of pipe till systems are nearly full of water with air
vented.
Closed vent line.
Finally open the tail pipe valve and let all the water flow out.
Continue until clean fresh water appear from one end and satisfied by ATL
representative.

Continue to blow out with compressed air.

Procedure for hydro-jetting:

Hydro-jetting fluid shall be clean, clear fresh water and shall not contain
suspended solids. (Only apply to pipe that are not suitable to perform flushing as
indicate in flushing table line list)
Connect high-pressure hose to machine skid. Data refer to Hydro-jet data table.
Insert the high-pressure hose slowly into pipe from one end.
Continue until clean fresh water appear from one end and satisfied by ATL
representative.

Continue to blow out with compressed air.
