2. Conference proceedings commenced with a Holy

Communion Service, with Bishop Taranath Sagar (India &
Chairman, Asian Methodist Council ("AMC")) preaching
and liturgists Bishop Nathaniel Lazaro (ECP, Philippines),
President Rev. Dr. Lam Sung Che (Hong Kong) and
President, Rev. Dr. Albert W. Jebanesan (Sri Lanka). We
thank them and especially Bishop Taranath Sagar for his
exhortation to remind us of our duty as Christians and the
role we need to play today.
3. The Conference expressed its sincere gratitude to the
Methodist Church in Sri Lanka and President, Rev.
Dr. Albert W. Jebanesan for hosting the event and to
Mr. John Ling (Malaysia and AMC Vice-Chairman) for
coordinating the organisational efforts. The Conference
was preceded by meetings of the Fellowship of Asian
Methodist Bishops ("FAMB") and the AMC Executive
Committee ("AMC Exco").
4. The Conference endorsed the recommendation of the
AMC Exco that we expressed our solidarity with the
Methodist Church in Sri Lanka in supporting its ministry to
the over 86,000 war widows in the country. To this end,
the General Assembly of the AMC authorised a humble
donation and approved the recommendation of the AMC
Exco to designate the offering collected at our Closing
Service to be given to the Methodist Church in Sri Lanka
to support this work. The incoming AMC Exco will also
write to all our member churches to ask that they give
prayerful consideration to provide further support to this
ministry.
5. We noted the concerns faced by the countries and
churches in Asia arising from both religious and secular
challenges, made worse in some places by authoritarian
regimes, growing fundamentalism and the seductive
charms of consumerism as highlighted in the remarks on
17 June by Prof. Rev. Dr. Patrick Sookhdeo, our invited
speaker and International Director, Barnabas Fund. We
noted the need for better understanding to equip us to
face these challenges. As politics is central in modern
society, we endorsed the prayer that more Christians take
up the challenge of politics and also for more Christianity
to be exhibited by politicians.
6. As Christians, we believe in the sacredness and sanctity
of human life and dignity and seek to support all avenues
to avoid man causing the loss of any life. We express our
sympathy and prayers to the families and loved ones of
all who have lost their lives through violence, evil or lack
of compassion and mercy and through natural disasters
such as the recent tragedies in Nepal and Malaysia. Apart
from those affected in Asia, we also remember those
who recently died in the shooting at Emmanuel African
Methodist Church in Charleston, South Carolina, USA.

7. We endorsed the morning service devotion call on

18 June by Bishop Yong-Jai Jun (President, Council of
Bishops, Korea) that we uphold those good traditional
values which are a hallmark of Christianity in Asia. In
considering the need to make disciples in Asia, we
endorse the admonition by Bishop Wee Boon Hup
(Singapore) that there is no age limit for disciples.
Hence, we should re-double our efforts to grow
discipleship amongst all, young and old alike. We noted
the need to produce locally and culturally relevant study
materials, rather than taking wholesale what is available
from distant shores.

1. The Fourth Asian Methodist Conference was held from

17-20 June 2015 at the Paradise Beach Hotel, Negombo,
Sri Lanka, through the kind hospitality of the Methodist
Church in Sri Lanka led by President, Rev. Dr. Albert W.
Jebanesan. The Conference Theme was "Facilitating
Transformation in Asia".

8. We endorsed the call made by Bishop Rodolfo Juan

(Philippines UMC) at morning devotion on 19 June that
we not only emphasize missions and evangelism but
also promote discipleship and accountability in an Asian
context. We must reclaim the Great Commission (Matt
28:19-20) in our actions as Asian churches, sensitive to
our local context and caring and supporting each other as
we "feed His sheep".
9. We received with gratitude the comprehensive and
biblically grounded exposition made by Bishop Ong Hwai
Teik (Malaysia) assisted by Mr Anthony Row and Mr John
Ling on the challenges facing us in inter-faith dialogues
and in seeking ethnic integration. We heed the example
of Mordecai in Esther 3 and remember the essential need
for continual prayer as "God is greater" (1 John 3:20).
We pray for God's grace and wisdom for all our member
churches regarding the particular issues raised by each of
them in response to Bishop Ong's address.
10. We thanked Dr. Ajith Fernando for his timely reminder
at our closing morning devotion on 20 June to behave
always and seek gracious spiritual accountability, based
on the Wesleyan model, as we serve our gracious Lord
and Saviour.
11. The Conference expressed their gratitude for the faithful
service of all who served in the outgoing AMC Exco
led by Bishop Taranath Sagar (India), Bishop Nathanael
Lazaro (Philippines EMC) and all others. The Conference
also expressed its support for the new leadership in the
AMC Exco led by President Rev. Dr. Lam Sung Che (Hong
Kong).
12. We thanked President, Rev. Dr. Albert W. Jebanesan, for
preaching at our Closing Service that Christians must not
look after only ourselves. We must serve others to show
God's love for them. We must accept the call to serve in
church and in society, trusting not in our talents but in
God' grace. We pray that our Lord Jesus Christ continues
to bless and uphold His Church in Asia and beyond.
To God be the glory!
