The second session was about how deconstruction altered the way we read, appreciate and
criticize literature. Dr VC Harris, who has edited
a series of books on new critical theories, said
that Derridas emergence in the theatre of critical
theories was that of Hemlets ghost, destabilizing
the calm, comfortable, ivory tower of academia.
Along with the fact that deconstruction helped
deepen the feminist and Dalit readings of
literature in Kerala, it helped innovative readings
of religion by opening up its heterogeneous
hermeneutical traditions.
As part of the OB-Interactive lecture series, the second one-day workshop will be held
on the omnipresence of caste in Indian societies dissecting the origin, growth,
evolution and modern disguises of Varna Vyavasta and analysing the theoretical and
political tools to effectively address and challenge it. The workshop will be held on
March 21, 2015 / Saturday at Asma Tower, Calicut.
Prof. Kancha Ilaiah (writer, academician, activist) and Dr. MB Manoj,
(Calicut University) have agreed to handle the national and Kerala contexts of caste
