The objective of OPS Servios de Produo de Petrleos Ltd. OPS, a joint venture
company between the SBM Offshore Group and Sonangol (the Angolan national oil company), is
to provide the Angolan Offshore Oil and Gas industry with high quality production services through
the leasing and operation of Floating Production and Floating Storage facilities (FPSOs and
FSOs), by the development and expansion of the competence of Angolan technicians in areas of
safety, proficiency and quality. This is to meet the demands of the offshore industry, and thus to
ensure that the clients of OPS achieve their targets and objectives. Capitalising on the resources
of the group, OPS provides safe, reliable, and cost effective solutions for the needs of offshore oil
and gas field developments, minimising capital and operational expenditures for its clients.
For the conceptual definition of each system, SONASING & OPS determine the performance
requirements and the operating philosophy for its sisters companies in the Group to design and
build the facility. During the design and construction phases, the companies work closely together
with the clear objective of achieving an optimised, fit for-purpose system. To this effect, the marine
and production superintendents who will actually operate the unit are mobilised early in the project
and participate actively as part of the project execution team. Their task is to ensure that design
satisfies their ultimate requirements as operators.
This specific approach of leasing and operating fit-for-purpose FPSOs and FSOs has
proven to be most successful in addressing the needs of the industry throughout the world.
