After Corbyns election - seize the time...

MARCH AND STRIKE

AGAINST AUSTERITY
T

HE ELECTION OF JEREMY Corbyn

as Labour leader has electrified
British politics.
His first speech to Labours conference
called for opposition to austerity and
branded the Tories flagship Trade Union
Bill as a fundamental attack on human
rights.
He stated his continued opposition to
Trident nuclear weapons.
Previously Corbyn spoke in support
of the all-out strike by National Gallery
workers, and his first act as leader was to
join the Refugees welcome here demo in
London.
Shadow chancellor John McDonnell has
pledged Labour would restore trade union
rights. As PCS leader Mark Serwotka
said, We now have the opportunity to
build a genuinely formidable opposition to
austerity inside and outside Parliament.
But there are problems ahead.
Youd expect the Tories and the press to
attack Corbyn. But plenty of people inside
Labour also want him to fail. Union leaders
blocked a debate on Tridents future at
Labours conference.

was Peter Mandelson.
Lord Mandelson argues that the
right shouldnt oust Corbyn until he
demonstrates to the party his un-electability
at the polls.
In other words the Blarites will go for
Corbyn at the first opportunity.
So what do we do?
Whether you are a Labour Party
member or not, this is your fight.
We should get behind Corbyns
anti-austerity policies. To beat back the
Tories and Labours right well need a
mass movement on the streets and in the
workplaces, starting this Sunday 4 October
in Manchester, with the TUC demo at the
Tories Conference.
On 13 October the Trade Union Coordinating Group (TUCG) has called a
demo at Parliament against the Trade
Union Bill (5pm, Parliament Square).
Protests should happen at workplaces,
and in towns and cities everywhere.

This must be a huge show of opposition.

We have to seize the time.

Strikes

We need strikes too. It was great that

Corbyn backed the National Gallery
strikers. But to stop Tory attacks and
defeat the Trade Union Bill we need the
generalised strikes. This was backed at
TUC conference. We need the pledge to
defend any union that finds itself outside
the law turned into reality.
