HE ELECTION OF JEREMY Corbyn

as Labour leader has electrified
British politics.
His first speech to Labours conference
called for opposition to austerity and
branded the Tories flagship Trade Union
Bill as a fundamental attack on human
rights.
He stated his continued opposition to
Trident nuclear weapons.
Previously Corbyn spoke in support
of the all-out strike by National Gallery
workers, and his first act as leader was to
join the Refugees welcome here demo in
London.
Shadow chancellor John McDonnell has
pledged Labour would restore trade union
rights. As PCS leader Mark Serwotka
said, We now have the opportunity to
build a genuinely formidable opposition to
austerity inside and outside Parliament.
But there are problems ahead.
Youd expect the Tories and the press to
attack Corbyn. But plenty of people inside
Labour also want him to fail. Union leaders
blocked a debate on Tridents future at
Labours conference.
