Purpose of job:
To support Exams financial services to both internal and external East China customers in line
with corporate and China-wide exams standards and in a timely and professional manner.

The British Council China employs over 350 staff in Beijing, Chongqing, Guangzhou and
Shanghai. We have an unparalleled reputation for innovative work in cultural relations spanning
the activities of Arts, English, and Education and Society. In China we operate as the Cultural
and Education Section of the Embassy in Beijing and of the Consulates-General in Chongqing,
Guangzhou and Shanghai, and as such, have high visibility with the Chinese government at
national and provincial levels.
This job is located in our Shanghai Exams team of around 40 full-time staff but is also part of the
wider China Exams team which currently has over 170 full-time staff across our four main offices
in Beijing, Shanghai Guangzhou and Chongqing. Our China Exams team delivers a range of
international exams to individuals and corporate clients in China. The IELTS test is our largest
product taking up a high proportion of our teams resources. We pride ourselves in working to
high standards in test security, customer care, and financial transactions. Our work in Exams is
just one part of a wider set of projects and services offered by the British Council, the UKs
leading organisation in Cultural Relations.
Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:
(including people management and finance)

To support various East China exams processes including monthly exams TDP payroll, exams
accruals, exams scorecard, exams purchase orders and invoices uploading, exams contracts filing
and management, exams revenue reconciliation, exams aged debtors, and exams monthly budget
monitoring all in line with corporate standards.
To support East China Exams team in completing their financial duties.
To line manage staff (temps/outsourcing staff as allocated by line manager).
To have an active role on FABS

Attend meetings and training initiatives as required


To take an active role to develop professionally and to demonstrate in all work our corporate

To take an active role as an IELTS test day personnel (e.g. Supervisor/Assistant Supervisor
and/or Invigilator, clerical marker)

To ensure all duties are delivered in line with the British Councils policy on Equal Opportunity and
Diversity and EOD is taken into account when planning and delivering activity
Manage information created and received in compliance with the British Councils information
management standards, policies, the UK data protection principles and local legislation.
