Materials:
- chain
- shoelaces
- ribbon
- string
- wire
- super glue
- jewelry clasp
For our metal materials, we used 6 different types of chain:
silver ball chain, hardware store chain, and two chains from
old necklaces.

For fabric-ish materials, we used two shoelaces, two pieces

of lacy trim, plain old white string, and ribbon.
We used one chain as the main necklace chain. This should
be about twice the length of everything else, and the braid
will be centered on this chain.

Lay everything out and separate things into three groups of

four. Attach each grouping using wire. Then attach to the
main chain.

Tape down and braid!

Use wire to bind the bottom together. Trim off excess (but
leave the main chain you need that!).

Now well use another shoelace to make it look pretty! Glue

the shoelace to one side of the end of your braid. Press
down firmly. Wrap around the end of the braid, gluing every
so often, until you can only see the main chain. Glue the
end into the middle of your looped shoelace and youre
done!

Youve got an awesome chunky statement necklace perfect

for any occasion.

What you need:
-A piece of leather lace (long enough to tie and slide over your
head)
-Cotton string
-Fabric dye

How to do it:
-Cut 8 pieces of cotton string about 3 ft. long.
-Fold each string in half and attach to the leather with a larks head knot.
(Shown in the first image.)
-I would recommend taping the untied leather down tightly across a table so
that the top of your necklace wont move around.
-The rest of this pattern will basically just use square knots. You should have
16 strings hanging down, think of them in sets of four. To create a square
knot, take the first set of four on the left side and cross string #1 over #2 & 3
and under #4 then take #4 and loop it under #1 on the right side, continue
under #3 & 2 and then come out over #1 on the left side. Now tighten this to
the top holding #2 & 3 tightly will help. Then take #1 (which is now on the
left side) and go over #3 & 2 and under #4 then take #4 and loop it under #1
on the left side, continue under #3 & 2 and then come out over #1 on the
right side. And tighten this to the top as you did before. A square knot!
-I used alternating square knots on the top. A square knot for strings 1-4, 58, 9-12, 13-16 for the first row, strings 3-6 and 11-14 for the second row,
strings 1-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16 for the third row, strings 3-6 7-10, 11-14 for the
fourth row, strings 5-8 and 9-12 for the fifth row, and strings 7-10 for the
sixth row.
-Then I tied a few random knots on the strings left hanging and trimmed the
bottom.
-Tie the leather lace so that it fits over your head and you can slide the knots
along the top a bit closer if you would like.

-I used RIT box dye and follow the stovetop instructions for heating the
water & dye. The I dipped the necklace down into the water as high as I
wanted the dye to go. Then I pulled it out a little bit and tied it to the pot
handle and let it soak a little longer. I continued to pull it up a little bit every
5 -10 minutes to get a slight ombre look.
-Rinse it out and let it dry.
*If you need images to show you how to make these
knots. This and this really helped me.

2 silver jump rings;
silver lobster clasp;

30 inches .

Tie strands together and tape to the

table . Then separate each set of three

Start on the right and move to the left .
The technique is simple : take grouping 1
and weave it over grouping 2, under grouping

Just follow the steps below and you
will not have problem .
Next step is to take the new group three and

DIY Chevron Pastel
Friendship Bracelet

As a teen, I was obsessed with

making Friendship Bracelets and Im
so pleased to see they have made a
comeback recently! My favourite type
is the easy Chevron Friendship

Bracelet made with embroidery

thread and a few knots.
This is a great project to make in front
of the TV, so I hope the DIY tips
below will mean you can all join in my
favourite 90s craft trend!
I picked up my pastel coloured
threads in the charity shop. I also
found a lovely vibrant pink and some
royal blue for an upcoming
embroidery project for my friends
wedding gift.

Start by cutting 5 lengths of

embroidery thread each around 60cm
long. Fold in half and tie a knot a
couple of inches from the top. Tape
down & you are ready to get started!
Divide the threads either side into
colour order from the outside in. You
should have symmetrical colours.

Starting on the left hand thread (mint

green in the image below), loop it
around the next thread in the
sequence and pull tightly to the top of
the strand. Repeat on the same
thread, so you have made two knots.

Repeat this sequence in turn for each

thread, knotting from left to right.
You should stop when you have
knotted across 4 different coloured
threads.

Now work from the right to left with

the mint green thread, making two
knots on each colour (4 threads).
These knots are made in reverse to
the ones you made on the left hand
side. You should end with both mint
green threads in the middle.
Now make two knots with the left
hand mint green thread to close the
chevron shape in the middle.

Start with the next rows in the

chevron, working from the outside in,
first with the left thread (pink) and
then the right. Continue working each
colour in turn.

The chevron pattern should cover the

top of your wrist. I continued the

pattern until my bracelet measured 23 inches (but I have skinny wrists!).

Plait the remaining thread at each
end and knot to secure. I added a
bead for decoration.

And youre done! Now wear your

Chevron Pastel Friendship Bracelet
with pride, or even better pass it to
a friend. After, all it should live up to
its name!

There will be another friendship

bracelet DIY on the blog next week, so
watch this space.
