1. Scope of Works

Scope of Activities
An electrical conduit is a purpose-designed electrical piping system used for protection and
routing of electrical wiring. Electrical conduit may be made of metal, plastic. Electrical
surface conduits shall be installed in the concrete slab/wall according to the construction coordination drawings.

Site Procedure
i.

Site mobilization shall be done with real time monitoring the conditions & progress of

ii.

builder works.
Before commencement of the work, carry out examination of the physical condition

iii.

of the area.
Photographs should be taken where necessary, prior to commencement and during
works.

Method Statement

1. Preparation Stage
a. Selection and sample submission of material as per specification by consultant.
b. For surface conduits must be complete with proper fittings and accessories for G.I.
conduits.
c. Accessories used for the support of G.I. conduit both vary with method of support.
The most common being the conduit saddles. The spacing between supports must
comply with specifications by engineers, foreman and sub-contractor.
d. Co-ordination with main contractor on the proposed routing by Engineer/Supervisor.
e. Preparation of detail shop drawings for the proposed mounting method including
support system by Engineer.
f.

Surface conduit samples of the correct class must be subscripted for approval by
consultant prior to purchase of Engineer.

2. Installation stage
a. Site survey of the proposed conduit routing based on approved CSD by foreman /
sub-contractor together with Engineer.
b. Installation shall be carried out based on approved shop drawings & material used
shall be of approved brand.
c. Surface conduit can be bent at the job site to allow a neat installation without
excessive numbers of manufactured fittings. This is particularly advantageous when
following irregular or curved building profiles.
d. Several general requirements apply to all types of conduit installation. All runs must
be installed as a complete system before any conductors are pulled into them. In
other words, a run of conduit (to include conduit, fittings, and supports) must be
complete before the conductors are installed.
e. A run of conduit should be as straight and direct as possible. When a number of
conduit runs are to be installed parallel and next to each other, install them all at the

same time.

f.

Mark the exact position of the conduit route with the blue marker string and then
install conduit saddles.

g. Install the correct size of the conduits, by clamping with saddles by foreman / subcontractor.
h. Conduit must be supported by straps or hangers throughout the entire run.

i.

All types of conduit must be reamed after they have been cut.

j.

Conduit threaded in the field must be threaded with a die.

k. Threaded couplings and connectors used with any type of conduit must be made
with tight connections.
l.

When you are installing conduit, you will need to make bends to go over or around

obstacles. These bends must be made without reducing the inside diameter of the
conduit at the bend. You will make most bends on the job as a part of the installation
procedure. These are called field bends. Factory-made bends may be used instead
of field bends.
m. Check to ensure no sharp edges within the conduit joints for surfaced conduit by
foreman / skill worker / sub-contractor.
n. Conduits shall run vertically or horizontally only for surfaced run conduits.
o. After installation of conduit, Engineer-in-charge shall check the complete works and
complete the Inspection Checklist for Surface Conduit Installation works. ( Refer to
Appendix 1 )
p. Engineer-in-charge shall arrange and request for inspections with the Owners
representative Residential Technical Officer (RTO) using approved Main Contractor
Request for Inspection (RIN) form.

Approved Materials
All metal conduits shall be class 4 heavy gauge screwed steel conduits
complying with BS 4568: part 1: 1970 and BS EN 50086-1:1994, BS
Conduit G.I.

EN 50086-2:1996. The conduit and all ancillary items shall be hot-dip

galvanized to BS EN ISO 1461:1999. Only galvanized fittings and

All to note

components shall be used with galvanized conduit.

No conduit of less than 20mm diameter shall be used.

2. Project Organization for Health & Safety Control

( Please see Appendix 2 )

3. Health & Safety Risks and Controls

( Please refer to attach Risk Assessment in respect to above scope of works
Appendix 4 )

4. Access / Egress
a. Proper step ladders shall be provided for access and egress into trenches as
applicable.
b.

All workers working at height shall equip themselves with proper attire including full
body harness if height >2 meters and additional with shock absorbers if height >4
meters. The harness lanyard shall be secured to the various secure points.

5. Lighting
Adequate temporary/task lighting shall be provided if work to be carried at night or at
dark places.

9. Waste Management
i. The rubbish which would be created from our scope of works will be disposed to the
designated dumping ground.
ii. All waste materials to be placed at the designated waste bins according to types.
iii. The general waste will be collected / disposal periodically by licensed waste collector.

10. Special Control Measures

i. The following general control measures against Safety, Environment and Quality shall
be required for our scope of work and special control measures are not applicable for
us
Scaffolding must be properly erected by quality erector & must have valid
green pass.

Proper PPE must be worn at all time.

Daily tool box meeting to be arranged before start work.
Regular maintenance will be carried out to the tools and equipment in
accordance to manufactures recommendation to ensure that they are in good
and safe working condition.
All workers are taught and trained with basic safety knowledge by using
proper PPE while working.
All area will be kept tidy.
Supervisors inspection will be carried out at every stage and quality of work
will be assured on each drawing.

ii. Emergency
In case of emergency, all workers should cease working and the Safety
Supervisor, and the above mentioned Lifting Supervisor (Whom is on duty) should be
notified. Upon doing so, the SSYENC SHE Manager / Officer must be notified. At the
same time, all personnel involved in the operation should assemble at the designated
area.

General Notes:
1. The contents of this method statement should be communicated with the site workforces
who are involved with the activities.
2. An Accepted copy of this method statement should be available at the work locations
at all times during work.
