Development on Social Economic Infrastructure in Malakal Town in the Republic of
South Sudan funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The
infrastructure projectsbeing implemented include(i) Construction of community roads
within Malakal town by adopting labor based technology (LBT) which was introduced
by the project team with a component of capacity building through on-job-training of
the counterparts.(ii) Re-construction of existing cargo jetty and a new jetty for
passenger boats at Malakal river port and (iii)Construction of a small-scale water
treatment plant. The master plan on the other hand is comprehensive and covers all
aspects of town planning with a target year of 2022.

The project entailed routine maintenance of Rumbek- Tonj-Wau Road (223kms) and
incorporatedlabour based programme aimed at engaging the local communities in
road construction and maintenance works with a view of having a work force which is
locally trained to be absorbed by the respective State Ministries of Physical
Infrastructure and Town Planning upon completion of the project.

Consultancy works for UN-WFP Wau- Abyei Road Project which marked the point
of departure from emergency road repairs to construction of proper road in
South Sudan to gravel standards.Acted asResident Engineer for the period
between August 2008 and June 2009 and saw the project to a successful
completion. Discharged the following responsibilities among others;







Organizing and conducting regular site meetings andwas involved in activities


aimed at developingpositive interpersonal relations with the Local and State
Authorities on behalf of the company and the Employer through regular
project briefings and courtesy calls.
Carrying out scoping works to establish the extent of works and cost appraisal
for project planning purposes and ensuring that the Engineers obligations
were effectively discharged on site as stipulated in the contract document.
Interview and recruitment of local technical staff seconded to the Engineers
office.
Capacity building by training local Inspectors of Works on the supervision
requirements with regard to modern engineering practices and subsequent
assignment of duties to ensure that the technical specifications were
achieved.
In charge of management of Engineers intellectual and consumable resources
on site and madearrangement for timely procurement of the same.
Preparation of progress reports for the project and any other reports based
on the conditions encountered on the ground which were otherwise
unforeseeable at the time of tendering. This called for preparation of
Variation Orders andassessment of suchclaims from the Contractor.
Generation of road formation and finished wearing course profiles and cross
sections for the purposes of quality and quantity controls in an area

predominantly characterized by causeways requiring huge volumes of fill but


with scarcity of suitable naturally occurring material for road works.
Overseeing site laboratory tests and daily operations to ensure accurate and
authentic data are generated.

Involved in the supervision of UN-WFP Rumbek Tonj Emergency Road


Rehabilitation Project in South Sudan which was crucial to ensure that
humanitarian assistance and relief efforts reached the local communities.
As provided for in the contract and in the spirit of team work, was seconded
to the Consultants by the Contractor as part of Engineers staff to enhance
capacity of supervisionparticularlyalongside Materials Engineer. And
wasengagedin materials prospecting, inspectionof road construction works
including general quality control both in the field and at the site laboratory.
Was also in charge of analysis and presentation of the material test results in
an approved digital format/ soft copy.
Preparation of daily Inspectors reports and compilation of data for monthly
progress reports.
Assisted in computer aided designs and drawings for structures and bridges.
The bridges were mainly for the assessment of the adequacy of structural
members and identifying necessary repair works which needed to be
undertaken.
Temporarily acted on behalf of both Materials and Measurements Engineer
when the works were divided into two different fronts to accelerate
progresswith each camp being partially independent but fully mobilized in
terms of construction resources, personnel and requisite facilities.

Offered part time consultancy services to DAI, an organization under USAID.


Was charged with the responsibility of making relevant technical
recommendation and reviewing of civil and structural designs for the
rehabilitation of Tonj County offices in Warrap State- South Sudan.
Regular supervision of the Contractors workmanship and inspection of
quality of workon site whilst offering technical and professional support on
the ground especially on structural reinforcements and concrete mix designs.
Ensuring the contract was run in accordance with the provisions of the
contract document so as to achieve the required specifications within the
limits of the bill of quantities.

Preparation of Monthly Progress Report for submission to the head office and
regular briefings to the office of Tonj County Commissioner, on project
matters and work progress.
Approving payment for any part of permanent works at substantial
completion in liaison with the country head office in Juba.
