eChartered pathway options for Chartered Status and registration

When eChartered commences there will be four different pathway options for members to
apply to become Chartered and registered and for non-members to apply to become
registered.
1.
2.
3.
4.

The Engineering Competency Report (ECR) pathway

The Professional Development Program (PDP) pathway
The Mature Experienced Engineer (MEE) pathway
The Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) pathway

These pathways are similar to the existing four pathways on the Chartered Status website.
Elements of Competency refer to those included in the current working draft of the Australian
Engineering Competency Standards Stage 2 available on the eChartered website.
1. The Engineering Competency Report (ECR) pathway
This pathway is for Stage 1 competent engineers who have three or more years of engineering
experience, verified upon submission of their written application.
Engineers on this pathway will need to respond to all 16 Elements of Competency and provide
further evidence through a CV, a statement of CPD, and an Engineering Experience Record that
provides verification of the last three years of work experience detailed in the CV.
On this pathway the complete written submission will need to be submitted at once. The
Professional Development Program pathway offers staged assessment and further support.
It is anticipated that many engineers applying to become a Registered Professional Engineer of
Queensland (RPEQ) will use this pathway to apply for their Stage 2 competency assessment.
Members who enrol this pathway can apply for Chartered Status and registration outcomes.
Non-members can apply for registration outcomes only. See the top of the eChartered website
for the list of outcomes.

Australia website section Are you eligible to become a member? here:

2. The Professional Development Program (PDP) pathway
This pathway is open to Graduate Members or above of Engineers Australia who are currently
enroled or seeking to enrol on an Engineers Australia Professional Development Program
(PDP). Engineers can join a PDP as a company-sponsored or self-sponsored participant.
The PDP pathways is for engineers wanting staged assessment and additional support
throughout the application process, primarily from their company who can assist them with
career planning through the competencies, the PDP Team and Industry Team that provide
support and resources, and Engineers Australia National Assessors through the provision of
workshops and feedback.
Engineers on this pathway will need to respond to all 16 Elements of Competency and provide
further evidence through a CV, a statement of CPD, and an Engineering Experience Record that
when submitted provides verification of the last three years of work experience detailed in the
CV.
Engineers on this pathway can submit one draft in response to an Element of Competency for
feedback from a National Assessor. They then need to submit responses to Elements of
Competency in groups of four or more for assessment. PDP participants need to be actively
working towards Chartered Status to remain enroled on the system. Participants who have not
made progress in a 12 month period will be contacted to discuss their situation.
Participants on a company-sponsored program will have their requests to enrol, submit
assessment items and sit the Professional Interview sent to their designated PDP Coordinator
for approval. Participants on a self-sponsored program will need to pay up front for all of these
requests.
Enroled participants at any time will be able to request to change their affiliation, i.e. From one
company to another, from self-sponsored to company-sponsored or from company-sponsored
to self-sponsored, without incurring a fee.
Members who enrol on this pathway can apply for Chartered Status and registration
outcomes.

3. The Mature Experienced Engineer (MEE) pathway

This pathway is open to full Members of Engineers Australia (MIEAust) who have at least 15
years of engineering experience including five or more in a position of full responsibility. A CV
and statement of CPD that meets Engineers Australia CPD guidelines and that covers 150
hours over the last three years must be provided with enrolment. A National Assessor will
assess the applicant for their suitability to proceed on the MEE pathway. A different pathway
may be advised.
Further information about Engineers Australias CPD policy can be found at:
http://www.engineersaustralia.org.au/professional-development/continuing-professionaldevelopment
Engineers on this pathway will need to respond to 11 out of the 16 Elements of Competency
and provide evidence of the other five Elements through an Engineering Experience Record.
This Record is a verified record of the last five years of work experience detailed in the CV. The
11 Elements that need to be directly addressed are Elements 1-11 in the working draft of the
Australian Engineering Standards Stage 2 available on the eChartered website.
Members who enrol on this pathway can apply for Chartered Status and registration
outcomes.
4. The Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) pathway
Engineers Australia has established mutual recognition agreements (MRAs) with Institutions
around the world through which a member of such a body, on application, will be accorded an
equivalent level of membership in Engineers Australia and vice versa. Many of these
agreements recognise equivalent Chartered Status and registration.
The MRA pathway is open to engineers who hold equivalent qualifications or credentials with
a reciprocal body. For a list of MRAs see the Engineers Australia website here:
http://www.engineersaustralia.org.au/membership/mutual-recognition-agreements
The application form at the bottom of this webpage details the requirements for those who
have membership of the engineering bodies covered by an MRA as well as the Chartered
Status and registration outcomes covered under each agreement.
Engineers applying through this pathway will need to provide evidence of current financial
membership with their reciprocal body and Chartered status and/or registration equivalency.
Engineers Australia Members who enrol through this pathway can apply for Chartered Status
and registration outcomes. Applicants intending register on the National Professional
Engineers Register (NPER) or as apply to become a Registered Professional Engineer of
Queensland (RPEQ) can use the MRA pathway without becoming a Chartered member. See the
top of the eChartered website for the list of outcomes.
