1Theforcesappliedtothesystemareinitiallyequalandopposite,sothatthesystemdoesnotaccelerate.Its
velocityremainszero.Thefairlysmalladdedmassissufficienttocompensateforfrictionalforce,sothattotal
horizontalforceonthesystemisagainzero.Whenthisconditionisachieved,thesystemhaszeroacceleration
andconstantvelocity.Explainthis.
2Wheneverforcesarenotbalanced,thesystemaccelerates.

3ThisresultingmotionisconsistentwithNewton'sfirstlaw.Anyobjecthaszeroacceleration(sostaysstillor
