By Jessica Howard
She may be young but that hasnt stopped Emily Karp from
tasting national success.
The 13-year-old Bacchus Marsh resident was crowned the
junior Australian champion of the Sporting Horse Australia
novelty racing championships last month.
Held at the Royal Melbourne Show on September 29, Emily

to first place in the under-15 stake race and second in both the
bending race and flag race.
Also a member of the Bacchus Marsh Pony Club, Emily said
she was extremely nervous going into the last race, which

Marg Card
News
By Kate Taylor
She may have missed out on her hope of
one last Christmas, but Marg Card had an
appreciation full of more love than any
holiday.
Her name is recognised by most in
Moorabool as a former Mayor and last
week, Marg Card was farewelled after a
short illness, the same week she would have
turned 68.
But it wasnt a funeral it was an
appreciation of a life well-lived, and much
missed.
Hundreds turned out for the standingroom only appreciation held at the Ballarat
Mechanics Institute, with Margs six
children, brother, and husband Allan all
speaking and singing.
Workmates spoke of her at the funeral, her
children spoke and sang at the funeral but
they didnt call it a funeral, they called it an
appreciation and thats truly what it was,
said long-time friend Judy Pepi.
Judy and Marg were elected to council on
the same day back in the 1990s and had
been friends ever since.
Marg was also well known for owning the
Greendale Hotel with Allan, before moving
to Bungaltap and moving back to Greendale
and also living in Mollongghip for many
years - finally retiring a couple of years ago.
And as for Margs legacy its nothing to
do with the community house, or Egans
Reserve, according to Judy; Marg was just
doing her job when she achieved things for
the community.
I see Margs legacy as not anything
material, her legacy is one of what she was;
the person she was, thats her legacy. She
was just the most amazing person, shes
impossible to categorise because she was
unique.

Ballan residents are furious
over an out of control scrap
metal site located on a residential street.
The site, located in Steiglitz
Street and zoned in a commercial/residential
area,
mirrors a wreckers yard
with piles of cars (three to
four high), car parts, broken
glass, plastic taillights and
screws and bolts, that also
litter the roadside shoulder.
Local resident Tor Roxburgh
said she usually enjoyed seeing a bit of industry around
shoulder regularly.
Local police and the Sheriff
has been seen regularly at
the property.
Moorabool Shire Councils
CEO, Rob Croxford said
Council had received six
complaints in the past few
years relating to activity on
the property including
dumped cars, a skip on the
nature strip and garbage.
The owners of this land
currently have separate
permits to use one block as
a mechanics workshop and
the other block for a restaurant. They do not have a per-
Car parts that litter the roadside include nuts, bolts and
broken tail-lights.

CANCERJune 22-July 22
Play up action, play down chatter. A minor financial setback is offset by a major romantic gain. Put your creative talent to work - enjoy a show with a loved one, pen a
sonnet or paint a portrait.
LEOJuly 23-August 22
Your personal magnetism is strengthened but your intuition is weaker than you believe. Speak your mind, but
only to the right party. A conservative friend becomes
surprisingly broadminded.
LIBRASeptember 23-October 22
Patience is your byword, particularly if you are waiting
for a friend to make a long lasting commitment. For travellers and hosts alike, a contingency plan is wise this
week.

NUMBER GAME
You are a little too cautious this week and you could miss
out on an exciting social opportunity. A family member
is surprisingly helpful - and not a string attached.
AQUARIUSJanuary 21-February 19
Speak out if you doubt a partners or colleagues judgement. Travel is favoured on the weekend. Be kind to your
digestive system and avoid too much sugar or spicy foods.
PISCESFebruary 20-March 20
If planning a trip, be more than careful in selecting fellow travellers. Small risks pay off, especially when it
comes to going out on a limb for a loved one. Dont let
others try to organize you.
BIRTHDAY THIS WEEK
You are a born leader, lucky in money matters, fierce
when you dont get your own way and gently when theres
no other means of securing what you want. Long range
goals are favoured over short term plans. An educational
accomplishment could lead to a financial breakthrough.

Clubs could
kick goals
with points
By Jessica Howard
A new statewide system
confirmed by AFL Victoria
will help target equalisation
in football.
The Community Club Sustainability Program will
place a limit on the amount
of money each team can
spend on player salaries and
encourage player loyalty and
junior development by introducing a points system.
AFL Victoria Community
Football and Engagement
Manager, Brett Connell said
feedback from metropolitan
leagues and region commissions indicated strong support for the program.
The feedback was comprehensive and overwhelmingly supportive of a system
that addresses equalisation
concerns in community football, he said.
A player points system will
take a number of factors into
account including population base, ladder position
and previous player history.
Players who have competed
in 40 junior matches for a
single club will cost just one
point and anyone who has
played at AFL level in the
previous three seasons will
receive a maximum of six
points.
BFL teams have been allocated 45 points for the 2016
season whilst CHFL teams
will receive 42.
Additional points will be allocated to teams who didnt
qualify for finals in the previous year and a reduction
will occur for teams who
have won multiple premierships in a certain number of
seasons.
Darley president, Grant
Wright said he couldnt find
a fault in the point system.
I think its all positive, as
long as all teams receive
points fairly then I think it

The cricket club has full access to the reserve which will
mean theyll no longer have
to travel to other grounds for
home games.
The latest works mark the
conclusion of a $100,000 project joint-funded by Council
and the Sport and Recreation Victorias Country Football Netball Program.
Recreation Reserve Committee of Management also
contributed significant inkind support toward the
multi stage project.
Peter McGregor acknowledged the effort made by
Billy Smith in liaising with
the Shire to have the ground
ready in time, whilst Cr
Tatchell thanked both the
State
Government
and
the Reserves Committee
of Management for their
contributions.
