On 1 October 2009 the product development innovations for sealing compound

sealing compound BIRKOSIT - Dichtungskitt ® were approved. The new technical specification is as
follows: Temperature resistance up to 900 °C; Pressure resistance up to 250 bar. In close cooperation with
Siemens Power Generation, product developments have been geared to the future needs of the energy sector
and designed to meet the specifications for the next generation of SST steam turbines and SGT gas turbines.

Without the additional sealing of individual pressure areas using BIRKOSIT - sealing compound ® the
production imprecisions or the distortion under loads are no longer evened out, which means that the
turbine areas in
the individual pressure areas become permeable under pressure. This means the turbine loses power, and
can even
lead to unplanned reconditioning.

Hardening - vulcanisation,
Time and subsequent load of temperature and pressure:
-> Material applied to a thickness of 0.3 to 0.5 mm with a brush.
-> Vulcanisation at a thickness of 0.1-3 mm.
-> Vulcanisation only starts after several hours (2-3 hours).
(because casing sizes from 1.5m to 9m may require treating)
-> Usage load 100% guaranteed during vulcanisation!
-> Excess material is squeezed out and disposed.
Application during installation, dis-assembly:
-> Temperature contact surface is ideal at 20°C (room temperature).
(should be between 0°C and 80°C, if required heat up)
-> For 1kg BIRKOSIT mix in approx. 100ml linseed oil for better
processing.
-> BIRKOSIT remains flexible and adapts to any unevenness
the metal surfaces.
-> After connecting the production parts the
temperature and pressure resistance is immediately 100% guaranteed!
-> After applying the BIRKOSIT it can be installed immediately!

-> Any excess material will be squeezed out of the butt joint
and removed with a cloth.
Usage time/storage life:
-> BIRKOSIT is designed for the usual reconditioning intervals
in constant use for between 30000 - 50000 hours.
