2. Who is an International Applicant?


You are considered an international applicant if any of the following applies to you:
(1) Foreign national whose parents have foreign citizenship.
(2) Irrespective of nationality, one who has completed or is scheduled to complete all
educational courses, equivalent to primary, secondary and university education in
a foreign country for more than 16 years.

3. Qualification for Application


Application to the graduate school program is open to all qualified applicants who
hold a Bachelors degree from an accredited undergraduate institution (Masters or
Masters & Ph.D Joint Program), and to those who hold a Bachelors degree and
Masters degree from an accredited undergraduate and graduate institution (Doctoral
Program).

3-1. Additional Requirements for Specified Departments


1) Minimum language requirement by department
Minimum language requirement of each department (as of September, 2015)
Language requirements must be met by the applicants for the departments listed
below. A score report of a recognized English proficiency test (TOEFL, TEPS) and/or
a Korean proficiency test (TOPIK) is required. Only applicants with official language
results can apply to the following departments.

2) Minimum language requirement of other departments


- Applicants must meet one of three language abilities below.

Applicants are exempt from the language proficiency requirement if they meet only
any of the following criteria.
A person who speak English as the mother tongue.
(This applies to CAYSS applicants only.) Expecting academic adviser submits the Letter of
Recommendation which can verify applicants language proficiency and scholastic ability.
A person who had high school academic background in English speaking country.
A person who completed Korean language course Level 4 or above or who is taking
course Level 5 or above at the Korean Language Institute affiliated to the Chung-Ang
University.

Application fees (after deduction of remittance charge) will be reimbursed to applicants who
have applied to Interdisciplinary departments where the whole admission process was canceled
due to lack of applicants.
Note) 1. In case of reimbursement in foreign currency (ex. US$), please be informed that
the exchange rate as of reimbursement will be applied.
2. Any other charge, except a remittance charge, will be the applicants' responsibility
during reimbursement.

1) Overseas applicant interviews will be conducted through an international phone interview.


2) Auditions will be conducted for applicants to the Department of Music or Korean Music and
art tests will be conducted for applicants to the Department of Western Painting. Overseas
applicants may submit portfolios of art works or recorded audition materials in viewable form
(Video tape or DVD) rather than appear in person. Applicants should contact the department
office, if you are an overseas resident applying to a department that conducts auditions or art
tests. Please see page no.15 for contact information.
3) The international phone interview will be recorded and If an applicant is (or has been) found
guilty of submitting false/forged documents or using unfair means during the interview or
impersonating or procuring impersonation by any person, the admission will be cancelled
regardless of registration.
4) Please check your contact number when you type in yours in on-line application form for the
international phone interview.

To continue receiving scholarships, the recipient(s) must complete at least 6 credits a


semester
Grades are based on a 4.5 grading scale and if a student does not maintain a minimum GPA
(3.0 or above), the scholarships will not be renewed.
Newly admitted students who achieved Level 5 proficiency or above on the TOPIK, who score
above a 91 on the internet-based TOEFL exam, or who score above a 780 on the TOEIC
must submit his/her original transcript by December 11, 2015.
Above scholarship will be awarded within the budget range of the school, thus the most
exceptional students will be chosen by the selection process.
Students have to pay admission & other fees at the time of admission
If the scholarship, along with other scholarships the student is receiving, exceeds the cost of
the students tuition, the international student scholarships will be reduced and does not
become the students personal money.

2-2) CAYSS(Chung-Ang University Asian Young Scientist Scholarship)


1) CAYSS Benefits : Tuition fee waivers for four terms (including enrollment fee and application
fee of $100 USD) and additional stipend from their professors (minimum 500,000KRW per
month) CAYSS scholarship will be awarded within the budget range of the school, thus
the most exceptional students will be chosen by the selection process.

International students majoring in natural science, engineering, pharmacy and


medicine who obtained the consent of acceptance from one of the
Chung-Ang University full time faculty members. Other conditions are the
same with the admission guide of other international students'.
Students have to maintain a GPA of 3.0 and above
Students must get the approval signature of their academic advisor, every
single semester, to receive tuition fee waiver scholarship and monthly stipend
in their following semester.
Four semesters for Master's courses or Doctoral courses
An article must be submitted to JCR by him/herself or
collaboration with the student's academic advisor before the

graduation, and must be published within 1 year of graduation
(including confirmation of publication).
An article must be published to JCR by him/herself as a first or
a corresponding author(including confirmation of publication). This

must be a separate article from a presentation of a thesis for
graduation.

3) How to apply
> Step1. Find faculty members in the field of your interest as candidates for your supervisor at
http://v.vom.me/CAYSS Applications will not be accepted without the consent of at least
one Chung-Ang University full time faculty member as a prospective supervisor.
> Step2: Contact the faculty members directly via email to obtain consent of acceptance with
as much of your academic background and application information as possible
> Step3: After getting written consent from a faculty member, the CAU graduate school will
provide a CAYSS application guide.
