PRESS RELEASE

Army celebrates 113th founding anniversary

The Philippine Army will celebrate its 113th Founding Anniversary on Monday,
March 22. With the theme, “Philippine Army at Sambayanan: Magkabalikat sa
Patuloy na Pagbabago para sa Kapayapaan at Kaunlaran”, the 10th Infantry (Agila)
Division, Philippine Army based at a Naval Station in Barangay Panacan, Davao City
has lined up various programs to commemorate this important event.

First on its list is the “Kampo Dabaw” program that will run from March 19 to
21 at the Atrium of the Gaisano Mall in Bajada. The program is aimed to provide the
public a glimpse of day to day activities of Army units through photo exhibit and static
display. To add more color to the program, variety shows will accompany the exhibit
on the day that it will be launched on March 19 at around 2:00 o’clock in the
afternoon. “Kampo Dabaw” is open for public viewing during mall hours.

A poster making contest will also be held inside “Kampo Dabaw” on March 20,
Saturday. High school students recommended by Army field units and by selected
schools in Davao City will compete for valuable prizes and souvenirs that will be
given out to the participants. On March 21, performers from ROTC units, people’s
organizations and selected schools will be featured in a variety show entitled, “A
Tribute to our Soldiers”.

Second on the list is the “Open House” on March 22, Monday at the 10th
Infantry (Agila) Division Headquarters inside Naval Station Felix Apolinario,
Panacan, Davao City. The program will start with a fun run at 5:30 in the morning. A
flag raising ceremony will be held at 8:00 o’clock in the morning to be followed
immediately by the capability demonstration and marching band exhibition. Photo-
static display will also be made available at the Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao
(NFEM) Gymnasium throughout the day while musical numbers are being delivered
by the 10ID combo.

Third and last is the “Army’s Night” on the night of March 27, Sunday, again at
the NFEM Gymnasium. This program will feature the “Battle of the Bands” with the
participation of different combos coming from the Division Headquarters and its
subordinate units. Awards to the winning photos and MTV/videos submitted by 10ID
field units and civilians will be given during the “Army’s Night”.

10ID Commander, Major General Carlos B Holganza said that the theme is
very fitting to the increasing partnership between the military and all the civilian
stakeholders in Davao and in the Southern Mindanao regions. Known for his
“makatao” stance throughout his military career, he is actively pursuing collaborative
efforts with other government agencies and civilian organizations for the attainment
of peace and development in the Division’s area of responsibility.

He said, “This year’s Army celebration is our humble way of paying tribute to
the people who are unwavering in their support to our soldiers who day and night
work tirelessly to provide the Mindanaoans in Davao and Southern Mindanao region
a safe place to live.”
