How Much Longer Would We Be Alive

It was suppose a clear blue, sunlit morning; the virtually beautiful day you
could recall. Imagine waking up from an amazing dream of a clear horizon. Imagine
laying on your modern fresh suit, to start your new job. Imagine that extra hop in
your step as you move over your front door, your mind anxiously awaiting the
adventure of a new beginning to an amazing day. Then, imagine not getting to
where you demand to be. Not because you fell victim to a traffic jam or missed the
bus, but because you were a victim of a terrorist actan innocent victim, whose life
was cut short and threatened by terrorism.
The nightmares still come sometimes yanking Kevin back. He forgets hes
safe in his own bedroom, guitar leaning against the wall, in his familys little brown
ranch. He forgets his classes, his leg-breaking football game with his friend, all the
normal routines a typical American kid in Virginia does. In his nightmares, hes back
in the Philippines, hungry and afraid, a prisoner of Islamic terrorists. He closed his
eyes.
It was 2011, when Kevin and his mother were visiting relatives at Tictabon
Island in the southern Philippines. The region was troubledscared by decades of
poverty and violence of Islamic separatistsand that foreign tourists were targets,
as she knew it, but still thought the other possibility.
Wake up!
It was still dark when Kevin heard his mother shouting at him to run. She had
awoken early and had spotted dozens of silhouettes running towards their hut. They
fastened toward the beach but were stopped by a bright light shining in their eyes.
Through the glare they had witnessed men in camouflage. In their hand held a rifles
pointed towards them. When the sun rose, she saw that one of the men held a
grenade. It was that terrorist act, she presumed. Then they were cruised boats
where they met more men in uniform.
All day, Kevin trembled on the sand at gunpoint. As worse as being involved
in such devastation, his breath steamed the air. His eyes where wide looking ahead
of him blinking harshly at the bead of sweat rolling into his eyes. His ears twitched
at every nose around him. He mused to himself trying to think on how on earth he
had been placed into this situation? He is constantly filled with fear and enfolded
with terror. As much as other victim would feel, Kevin continuously ask How much
long would we live, how much longer would we live as if it was only those words
that remains in his word bank.
After a long day of exhaustion, a commander who spoke the language his
mother understands told her his group was fighting for an Islamic state and that she
and Kevin would be killed unless paid the ransom: $100 million. It may sound clich,
but the fact is most terrorist fight with paying attached to it.
Consequently, no one could pay the ransom that high. Even the Philippine
government doesnt have that much money. It would be the tragic truth that to
have that in hand, he countered. If you can get that star above, then you shall get

$100 million. Then a gunfire fervently released echoed. A blood flooded and
splattered among these fatigue men.
To pass the time, shuttered dreams and lives are just some of the many
personal effects that terrorism can bring ab bug out. Just how different is from each
human than another? Anatomically there are delicate variations, but we are all part
of the same world. To lambast out in other innocent volume referable to the fact of
different beliefs, is almost inhuman. Lack of composure and password is one of the
many flaws terrorists have built within themselves. They poses the greatest threat
to mankind. They know no friends and recognize no rules. End-to-end history, there
have been many unprecedented terrorist efforts. Sadly, it will continue raging until
one wins and the other is destroyed.
Most terrorist share the belief that killing, kidnapping, extorting, robbing, and
wreaking havoc to terrorize people are legitimate forms of political actions. Thus
giving a fear and terror to each of us. It was as if you were stepping on a line not
knowing where will it ends. And as if each footsteps where so loud that the noise
seemed to rattle the brain within ones skull. And probably giving a constant
reluctant action hoping against hope that nothing would pounce at you from the
darkness. Such experience corrupts ones meaningful reality to something
destructive imagination. And this is the battle of all time. Its complexities rival those
of the human psyche, but its answer is many times more difficult to grasp.
Perhaps the worst part is wondering. Does this will ever be stopped? Or how
much longer would we live? The answer may remain forever unknown. Hence,
became the unending suffering and become the main challenge to most
governments today.
