Introduction: Angela my client is a senior executive working for a multinational bank in Mumbai. Her work
schedules are quite hectic and I can notice the stress when I first met her when I was visiting the bank for some
personal reasons. She was glad to know that I am an Architect and immediately asked me design a house for her
where she can have some escape from chaotic city life. She was having some ancestral land in Diu and wanted me
to give my idea which can best fit her requirement. I promised her to do the same asked her why not to visit Diu
next weekend. As planned we reached Diu. This was my first visit to Diu and was in immediately in love with the its
immense natural beauty, rich Portuguese heritage, some of the most stunning architecture and attractions that I
have not experienced in any other state in India. All these, combined with the fact that it is a small and peaceful
island destination, was making it unique.
Angel revealed that her first love was painting and always wanted to be a painter. Her husband, Mohit, is also an
ardent lover of art and music. They have two teenage sons and love sport. She wanted that this new home should
reflect their inner personality and she could make this her home to pursue her interest in painting and desire to
indulge in some serious painting after their sons complete schooling and head for colleges.
It was a big challenge for me as I was just starting my carrier as an architect. The Charm of Diu was inviting and I
wanted to give my best for this work.

Site Location:
The
Site,
which
is
approximately one acre of
rectangular land, is located
on the west side of Diu on
Kodidhar Beach. The beach
is quite peaceful compared
to the busy Nagao Beach. A
rocky geographical feature
separates
these
two
beaches. The location was
perfect for Angela, away
from the hustle bustle and
yet near the heart of the
city. Nagao beach is just 5
mins walk. This picturesque
location can be said to be

epitome of calm

SITE ANALYIS DIU ISLAND

1.

CLIMATE &WEATHER CNDITION

The climate of DIU is normally pleasant throughout the year. The

monsoon season lasts from June to September with maximum
rainfall of 63.5cms. The maximum temperature does not exceed 38
degree Celsius and minimum temperature does not fall below 15
degree Celsius during summer. In winter the temperature ranges
from 20 degree Celsius to 25 degree Celsius.

COASTAL REGULATION ZONE(C.R.Z)
a)
No construction within 200 M from high tide line
b)
But , however temporary structure may be allowed in this NO
DEVOLOPMENT ZONE.
c)
NO compound wall is allowed in this 200 m zone. But fencing,
hedging is allowed.
d)
The FSI should not exceed the SS of the plot area.

Maximum height 12 m
f)G+2 floor allowed
g)
Basement allowed only after acquiring NOC from the state
groundwater authority.
h)
Groundwater cannot be tapped within the 200 m HTL
i)Other side margins of minimum 6 m.

ACCESSIBILITY access road is 5 m wide and attached with
other part of the city, historical monuments and other tourist
spots. Buses, rickshaws are available from the main city.

4. EXISTING VEGETATION DIU has plenty branching palm tree

called as HOKKA which is found nowhere else in the country.
Only one Indian species of African genus brought by Portuguese. DIU
the only place in India to have luxuriant growth of these trees, fruits
are edible and believed to have medicinal properties. SOIL :hard
rock and sandy soil.
