promoters also plan to own wood pulp forests for sustenance. The
project is looking for partners to launch the project. Expected cost

National Housing and Construction Corporation is a parastatal
body established by an Act of Parliament in 1964 where
government of Uganda owns 100%. With the changing business
environment, the corporation has changed its role from that of
building and managing estate to that of building and selling. The
Corporation is worth US$ 40 million in the terms of assets net
worth and it is profitable. The company is therefore looking for a
strategic investor for cooperation in its expansion programme.
The objective of the Masaka Fruit Project is to establish a
significant sized production unit, using the available raw materials
to create export oriented business model by adding enough value
to make a profitable and viable business. The foreign partner is
expected to supply technology, access to important market players
and some investment capital. At present the existing juice factory
is idle. When the factory was bought from Masaka Cooperative
Union it was named Masaka Fruit Processing Ltd and because of
old equipment, the promoters feel that there is need to up grade
the technical department of the project for efficient quality
production.
Bunyonyi Safaris Ltd. is looking for lime extraction equipment as
well as a partner for their project for the production of high quality
lime. The lime will be used for construction, as calcium based
agricultural fertilizers and animal stock feed. The project site
covers an area of about 10 acres in Busanza village, near River
Kaku in Southwestern Uganda. The company owns a limestone
mine with substantial limestone deposits. Presently the company
is crudely producing lime using a modern vertical kiln but the
mining, hydration, sieving and bagging of the lime is done
manually. This renders the process very slow. The aim of the
project is to mechanize these processes in order to produce more
quantities in a shorter time. The company has supplied lime to
major road constructors such as Sterling, ROKO construction and
Honest Construction Company.

low volumes demand is not always met. The company is seeking
for a joint venture/ long-term financing/ equipment purchase in

the project is to produce cement and therefore requires the
technology to produce and bag cement.
The company is

will be installed to produce the electricity required by the cement
plant - excess electricity will be supplied to the national power

in increased production of horticultural produce for export market.
The company needs a joint-venture partner, a technical expertise
and a term-loan. Currently, the company employs 15 people
directly and plans to invest additional US$30,000 in its expansion
project of establishing a cooling and sorting centre for fruits and
vegetables.

for the next phase of the project. The is very promising whereby in
2002, Centre received over 20,000 visitors from Uganda and far
afield. The project needs equity and technology, management of
research and other development aspects.
Annual total current sales of the company are US$110,000 and the
market for the fresh fruits and vegetables are readily available in
Europe. However, with the growing tastes and high quality
expected from the export market, the company plans to acquire
better facilities and equipment for handling of the fresh products.
Foreign participation is also entertained if this comes with
equipment, market penetration and any form of expertise or
capital.
The company was established in 1992 and deals in exports of fruits
and vegetables. Currently the company employs 30 people with
annual turnover of US$788,000. So far over US$370,000 has been
invested in the project. With good market prospects in Europe and
the Middle East, the company would like to upgrade its production
systems including equipment both at farm and post harvest
handling levels. A strategic investor is being sought to bring the
necessary improvement facilities including equipment and capital.
The project is located in Mukono district and has so far invested
US$ 560,000 and is growing okra, tomatoes, passion fruits and
chilies. These are cooperative farmers who are expanding their
operations, looking for market access, equipment purchase and
technology transfer. The company began its operations in 2001
and the annual sales are now in excess of US$200,000 and employ
45 people.
The company has completed a plan for construction of an abattoir
to slaughter 200 cattle, 180 sheep/goats and 2000 chicken per day
for export and domestic market.
The promoters have been
individually involved in cattle and goat trade, local abattoirs and
butcheries for many years. The major activities are: promotion of
local cattle keepers, animal breeding, pasture development;
