Twenty-Eight Sunday in Ordinary Time


The rich young man in the Gospel knew what he had to do, but he was locked into his
stuff. His possessions consumed him and blocked him from truly following God.
Pope Francis repeatedly warns us against a throwaway society which discards
people, just as todays Gospel warns us not to be locked into chasing more and better
stuff while neglecting Gods goals for us.

Holy Hour in

front of the Blessed Sacrament is worth more than a thousand years of

TODAY IS BLANKET SUNDAY THANK YOU! Thank you for your cash donation
to our Blanket Sunday collection. The Diocesan St. Vincent de Paul Society will
make your money go further with bulk purchases for use in our own metropolitan
area. Envelopes have been provided in the pews for those who wish to make a
donation. Please place envelopes in the collection basket. Donations are also
accepted online at www.svdpcle.org.
The Charismatic Prayer Group will meet in the rectory on Sundays at 6:30pm. All are
encouraged to attend, reservations are not necessary.

The Divorced, Separated and Widowed Catholics of Akron is sponsoring a talk by Father Jared
Orndorff, Pastor of St. Joseph Church. Fr. Jared will speak on annulments and the annulment
process. It will be held on Monday, October 12 at 7:30 pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary,
Convent Building, 1945 Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls. This event is open at no cost to single
people of all faiths. Refreshments will be served at 7:15 pm. For information call Sue 330-5545626.
BIOETHICS AND BEGINNING OF LIFE AND END OF LIFE ISSUES SERIES: Fr. Tad Pacholczyk
Ph. D. is a world-renowned expert in Catholic bioethics. Two different end of life talks will be given at
Queen of Heaven Parish in Uniontown on October 13 at 7:00 p.m. and at Walsh University, Barrette
Center, on October 14 at 7:00 p.m. An third talk on beginning of life issues (abortion, contraception,
in vitro fertilization, assisted reproductive technologies) will be given on October 14, at 3:00 p.m., at

The Women of Faith is considering the formation of a book club which will be open
to adult men and women in the parish. The place, time and book selections will be
decided upon by the group. Please contact Anne Sweeney (330-825-6302) by
October 15 if you are interested. A formation meeting will be held shortly after that date to

The next VIRTUS training will be Saturday, October 17, from 9:00-12:00 noon in the
St. Augustine School Cafeteria. If you are going to be 18 years of age and are
interested in volunteering at St. Augustine School, coaching CYO sports or working
with children in any capacity, you must attend a training session. To register, please

in the near future, One requirement is that the parents attend a Pre-Baptism Class.
The next class will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 7:00pm at Immaculate
Conception Church. Please contact 330-753-8429 to let them know you will be
attending.
All St. Augustine men and women are invited and encouraged to attend an annual
Holy Hour sponsored by Women of Faith. It will be held at 6:30pm on Tuesday,
October 20 in the church. Our prayer this year will be a response to the message of
Pope Francis and focus on religious freedom and our country. Join us to pray for
government leaders, their policies, and all American citizens. A short business
meeting and refreshments will follow in the school cafeteria.
SAVE THE DATE: The Women of Faith invites all St. Augustine parishioners to hear
guest speaker, Cindy Russo, on November 17 at 7:00pm held in the St. Augustine
cafeteria. Cindy will tell her story of how her faith was altered due to an experience with
Padre Pio in St. Vincent's Church in Rome on September 23, 2010, the Feast Day of
Padre Pio. She will also tell how she became the custodian of Padre Pio's chalice that
has been used during mass at St. Augustine and other local churches. All are welcome to hear

MARK YOUR CALENDARS.The Mass for the Anointing of the Sick will be
Saturday, November 7 at the 4:00 Mass, sponsored by the 5th grade in the school
and PSR. If you know anyone in need of this special sacrament, please invite them.

Priesthood Sunday on October 25. It is a day set aside to celebrate the importance
of the gift of priesthood in the life of the Church. It is a time for us to reflect on the
ministry that our priests share with us when we gather at the Table of the Lord
when we call in our time of need. Consider sharing a personal note or card of
thanks. Together we pray that many of our young people will be inspired by the
ministry and witness of our priests. May their hearts be open to hearing and

GENERATIONS OF FAITH Know the Faith; Live the Faith SYMBOLON Join members of Immaculate
Conception for Symbolon; the topic for November 5 is Divine Revelation. Sessions begin at 7:00pm, doors open at

Loyola Retreat House (700 Killinger Road, Clinton) will sponsor a Grief Support Retreat,
December 9 & 10. The two evening retreat will be directed by Deacon Robin Adair and will
include dinner each day. Please arrive at 5:30pm, dinner will be served at 6:00pm. To register

St. Augustine Life Teen youth group meets every Sunday from
6:15-8:00pm. in St. Augustine School room #101. All teens in
high school are invited to join us. This semester we will be focusing on the Person
of Christ.
The Edge youth group for middle school students (grades 6-8) meets
every Wednesday from 7:00-8:30pm. in St. Augustine School room
#101. Come join us for an awesome time! This semester our theme is prayer, so
come and learn more while having fun doing it! Friends are always welcome.

the second and fourth Mondays of the month beginning at 7:30pm, rosary is said at

Barberton Area Community Ministries item for the Month of October is Cereal All donations can be
placed in the bench in front of the giving tree in the vestibule of the church. Donations are picked up on
Monday mornings. Thank you again for all your support in helping us serve our brothers and sisters
in need.
