Eminem is represented differently within his body language in Hip Hop Connection
and Top of the Pops. In Top of the Pops Eminems body language is quite relaxed
because the article and the magazine is directed towards teenage girls. Teenage girls
are the prominent buyers of magazines in the music industry so the magazine is
purposely representing Eminem in a calm, relaxed way so that the parents of the girls
approve the magazine and doesnt mind them buying the magazine. However, in Hip
Hop Connection Eminems body language is quite serious and intimidating helped by
the use of a low angle shot which presents him as powerful. This representation is
different to the Top of the Pops representation because they have differing
audiences. The Hip Hop Connection has a target audience who are primarily male

teenagers whereas Top of The pops has a target audience who are predominantly
female teenagers.
Additionally, Eminems costume is used to represent him differently in the two
magazines. In Hip Hop Connection Eminem is wearing a smart white shirt with a red
tie. This goes against the common conception of Eminem as he is commonly associated
with wearing tracksuits. The white shirt and the red tie show Eminem is ready for
business which links in with the serious intimating attitude and props that are used.
In contrast, Eminem is wearing a chequered shirt in the other magazine which shows
represents him to be a friendlier person. He is represented this way so the target
audience see him in a differently to how he is commonly shown so they are more
likely to buy the magazine.
Lastly, props are used for different effects in both magazines. In the Hip Hop
Connection magazine Eminem is wearing a watch and has a gun tucked into his
trousers. The gun shows Eminem is aggressive and violent, additionally the gun is
silver which shows his high social status additionally the watch shows he is
successful. On the other hand in the Top of the Pops magazine Eminem is wearing a
bracelet and his tattoos are hidden, this shows him in a positive more approachable
way. They are represented in different ways due to the differing target audiences.
