How to create a Radio Advert

Logic
Logic is the software what you will be using to record/make your radio advert, this software lets
you record instruments into the software to make the radio advert, Logic can either let you record
your voice into the software, a live instrument into the software or you can use the MIDI keyboard
to send electronic signals to the piano roll to make a piano line.

MIDI
MIDI stands for Musical instrument digital interface,
MIDI lets instruments and computers to communicate
with each other through electronically notation. You
will need a MIDI keyboard, this needs to be plugged
in correctly and make sure that the keyboard works
properly and is able to record onto Logic express 9,
you will need some background music, use the
software instruments on Logic and use the MIDI
keyboard to insert the notes on the instrument bar
line.

Software Instruments/Audio Channels

The software instruments are instruments what are
able to be used on Logic, to record into a software
instrument you have to use a MIDI keyboard so that
you can send the instrument electronic signals so
turn into notation, the Audio Channel is the bar line
what you use when using a microphone, the audio
channel is just used to record your voice into the
software.

The Transport Bar

On Logic express 9, there is a transport bar
which lets you play, stop, pause and record on
a track, also the transport Bar tells you the
BPM (beats per minute), also he transport bar
lets you turn on the metronome and the loop
button the loop button lets you loop a specific
part if your recordings encase you want to edit
a small chunk of the recording, the metronome keeps you in time with the song,
so if you want a slower piece of music, you use the metronome to know the
speed of the piece.

The inspector
The inspector only focuses on one software instrument/audio channel at one
time, for example it lets you control the volume of the one specific instruments
and lets you add effects to the instrument such as EQ and distortion etc

The Tool Box

The tool box lets you edit a specific software instrument, for example, if you want to add notes or
erase notes then you use a certain tool to do that, the main tools what you will use are
Pointer tool- the pointer tool lets you select specific note(s) this tool is helpful because if you play
the wrong note, then you can just move the note using the pointer tool.
Pencil tool- the pencil tool lets you draw in electronic notes into the piano roll after recording the
piano roll, if you missed out playing some notes, instead of having to re-record the whole piano
line, you can use the pencil tool to just insert the correct notes.
Eraser tool- this lets you get rid of any electronic note what you want to get rid of, when you are
recording, you can hit some odd notes what you aren't supposed to play you can then use the
eraser tool to delete that odd note, this means that you don't have to re-record the piano line.

Quantising
Quantising is a button that lets you make the piano roll in time with whatever the BPM (beats per
minute) is, if you have a piece of music for an instrument what is out of time with the BPM, then
you use the Quantise button what will re arrange the notes to make the instrument sound more in
time with the BPM

Automation
Automation lets you pan the piano roll from one ear to
the other, you can also make the piano roll fade in/out
when you want, you can use the automation so that a
guitar plays in the left ear while the drums play in the
right ear, or you can have the drums playing a rhythm
then shortly afterwards, the guitar slowly fades into the
music.

The piano roll

The piano roll is the software instrument, the piano roll is
what makes the signals from the MIDI keyboard into
notation on the computer screen. Te piano roll lets you
change the instrument into whatever instrument you
want ( as long as it is on the software ), this means you
can record yourself playing the Piano, then afterwards
you can change that piano into guitar or a synthesiser
which will give your melody a different sound.

Conclusion
I think this task was set to test how well we know the software, making a radio advert lets us show
our creativity and how we can link our music we create to the specific product that we were
advertising, i think that my radio advert went well, for example i think that the background went well
with the product that we were trying to advertise, when we recorded ourselves into Logic, we kept
in time with the background music and spoke clearly so that you can hear what we are saying
clearly, i need to work on using the tools on Logic because i am still not too sure what some of the
tools do and they might help out my software instruments to make them sound much better, i could
also add effects on the instruments such as EQ etc because the instruments sound very plain and
basic.
