On the Road to Revival

Everybody talks about revival but how do we get there? In fact, what is revival? Tonight we’ll talk about the steps every Christian
needs to take in order for personal and countrywide revival to occur.

How many of you have heard of Steven Prefontaine?

The great American track runner Steven Prefontaine (born in Oregon, nicknamed Pre) didn’t start out as a super athlete from the get
go:
• As a freshman in high school Pre placed 53rd in the Oregon state meet
• And then the following year he failed to qualify for the state meet
• But one thing Pre knew – discipline and training were the key to success.
• By his junior year Prefontaine won every meet including the states
• And set a national high school record his senior year with a two mile race time of 8:41.5.
• Overall Pre set 19 national high school records in track.

College (University of Oregon):

Freshman he placed third in the Division I NCAA Men’s Cross Country Championships
Sophomore through Senior year he won all three Division I Championships
He won four straight 3-mile and 5000-meter titles

Post-Collegiate:
Pre set American records in every race from 2000 to 10000 meters

“To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift”

Matthew 22:34-38
To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift: we all want revival but we don’t want to put in the effort to make it come.

How do we get to this high standard Jesus lays out?

Acts 3:19 – Our first step is repentance.

Psalm 139:23-24 – Let the Holy Spirit clean you out. Let Him search you and know you and judge you.

Acts 3:19 – Our second step is turning to God.

Joel 2:12-13a – With sincerity and wholehearted devotion we need to turn back to God.
A preacher once defined backsliding as this, “If ever in your life you were more passionate about God than you are now, you’re
backslidden.”

Psalm 32:5 – Our sins will only be forgiven when we confess them to God and agree with Him that we’ve sinned.

Acts 3:19 - Our third step is times of refreshing.

Joel 2:25 – Times of refreshing will come, greater abundance will be poured out, lost time will be restored. (Restoration is a returning
to your throne)
Joel 2:28-29 – And Afterward revival falls. Moving forward: Remember that, “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the
gift”

Quotes:
“No one will ever win a 5000-meter by running an easy two miles. Not against me”
“I am going to work so that it’s a pure guts race. In the end, if it is, I’m the only one that can win it”
“To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift”
