Low Level

1. Make short but complete sentences.

2. Memorise 3-5 sentence structures.
3. Practise substitution with different words.
Examples of useful structures:

Intermediate and Advanced Level
1. Use sentence connectors like and ,but,
although, so to connect ideas.
2. Use adjectives and adverbs.
3. Use a variety of sentence structures.
4. Use similes/ idioms where possible.
Examples of useful sentence structures:
1. There is a book and a vase of beautiful
flowers on the table.
2. The house is big/ huge but very old.
3. Although the boy was hurt, he did not cry.
4. The boys are playing badminton outside the
double-storey house.
5. A group of children are dancing gracefully on the
stage.

Example 1
1. Miss Lim who is a teacher has a lovely garden. ( Dont give names UNLESS it is given
in the notes. )
2. Every evening, she enjoys watering the flower plants.
3. There are many kinds of attractive plants in her garden.
4. She spends a lot of time looking after her plants.
5. The plants are grown in flower pots of different sizes.

I would choose Brazilian Chocolate because it is made in Brazil which is famous for its
chocolates. The quality is very good and it comes in bars.
Secondly, the ingredients are malt, sugar, milk and sucrose which make it really
delicious. In addition, the price is only RM6.80 for a medium pack. It is not very expensive. This is
reasonable and affordable for me.
Another reason I would choose Brazilian Chocolate is that it is available at Georgetown
Chocolates only. I would not have any problem since Georgetown Chocolate is near my house. It is only
a stones throw away. I can even walk there to buy the chocolates.

I am sure my brother would love the chocolates I have chosen for him.
Example 3B
I would choose Indie Chocs because it comes from India which produces good quality
chocolates. Secondly, it comes in packets of large and medium size. I will choose the large packet for
my brothers birthday. The price is RM8.50 for a large packet. This is reasonable and affordable for me.
In addition, the ingredients are pure cows milk, malt and cocoa which are good for
health. My brother will love the delicious taste.
Another reason I would choose Indie Chocs is that it is available at all supermarkets.
Since there is a supermarket which is only a stones throw away from my house, I can buy it easily.
I am sure my brother would love the chocolates I have chosen for him.

Study the pictures carefully.

Identify the people, the event and the tense you would need to use.
Study the words given identify the parts of speech before making your sentences.
Memorise and apply particular structures and impressive words which you have learned.

3-4 pictures will be given.

Write at least 4-5 sentences for each picture. Add your own important key words.
Use adjectives for nouns and adverbs to describe verbs.
Use sentence connectors to connect ideas.
Use a variety of sentence structures.
Use idioms, proverbs or similes where possible.
Write 3-5 paragraphs.

Sample Essay 1 A
Pn Mariam is an honest, businesswoman. She is successful and generous too. Very often she
donates to charity. She likes to help poor people.
One fine morning, she was on her way home from the bank. She decided to take a short cut.
Suddenly, a robber came towards her and snatched her handbag. Shocked and scared, Pn Mariam
shouted for help as loudly as she could.
Fortunately, a policeman on duty nearby heard her shouting and quickly chased the robber. As
he was trying to escape, the robber tripped over a hard rock. He lost his balance and fell on the ground.
Without hesitation, the policeman pounced on him and handcuffed him. Then he returned the
handbag to Pn Mariam. The robber groaned in pain as he struggled to get up. Pn Mariam was grateful

to the policeman and thanked him for his help. After that / A few minutes later, the policeman took the
robber to the police station.

Sample Essay 1 B
Pn Siti is a housewife. She is a kind and loving lady. Her house is a stones throw from the bank
so she usually walks to the bank.
One bright sunny day, while she was walking home from the bank, a young boy snatched the
handbag she was carrying. Pn Siti shouted for help on top of her voice. She was terrified and did not
know what to do.
Luckily for her, a policeman on duty approached her and asked her what had happened.
Without wasting any time, the policeman chased after the boy. The boy was running so fast that he did
not see a rock in front of him. He tripped and fell. He realised that he was in hot water.
Immediately/ In the twinkling of an eye, the policeman caught hold of him and handcuffed
him. The boy groaned in pain as he tried to get up. The victim, Pn Siti, thanked the policeman who
returned the handbag to her. From that day on, she was more careful when walking alone.
