Te lucis ante terminum,

rerum Creator, poscimus,
ut solita clementia,
sis praesul ad custodiam.
Procul recedant somnia,
et noctium phantasmata:
hostemque nostrum comprime,
ne polluantur corpora.
Praesta, Pater omnipotens,
per Iesum Christum Dominum,
qui tecum in perpetuum
regnat cum Sancto Spiritu.

Composers Note:
This setting of the Latin hymn for the office of Compline is based on the
Mode VIII chant in each section the chant melody can be heard in at
least one voice part, and should be sung slightly to the forefront. The
opening chant should be sung metrically but with some freedom, and
should always be guided by the natural stresses of the text.
The organ part is designed to be playable either on a small chamber organ
or on a larger instrument. Registrations are suggestions only.
