INDUSTRY OVERVIEW

Pakistan has witnessed positive growth in all sectors of the economy over the past few years, particularly in
the engineering sector. The automobile and machine tool industries are major components of the engineering
sector of Pakistan and have played a key role in its economic growth by contributing 18.9% to the countrys
GDP. The two industries have shown immense resolve to sustain a comfortable level of operation.

SHOW OVERVIEW

The 4th International Machine Tools and Automation Industry Exhibition MTAP 2008, witnessed the
enthusiastic participation of local and international companies. The exhibition proved to be an excellent platform
for indigenous as well as foreign companies to showcase their product range.
The exhibition co-located another event, the 4th International Automobile, Auto Parts & Accessories
Exhibition AAPP 2008, which is an international event that caters the automotive sector.
The co-located events were highly productive for the exhibitors who succeeded in identifying trade leads for
future cooperation. At the same time, the visitors and local manufacturers found numerous networking
opportunities to broaden their business horizon.

INAUGURAL CEREMONY

The honourable Minister for Commerce and Industry, Mr.


Rauf Siddiqui, inaugurated two co-located shows. Mr.
Abbas Mooraj, President of Textile Manufacturers Association
of Pakistan, and Mr. Jawed Bilwani, the Acting President
of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry also graced
the occasion with their presence.
The ceremony was largely attended by prominent
industrialists, local and international exhibitors, diplomats
and representatives from the media.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

Participation of more than 200 companies from more than 25 countries of the world including engineering
companies from U.S.A., U.K., Italy, Belgium, China, Sweden, Turkey, Singapore and others

Over 7000 business professionals from the two related industries visited the show

60% spaces have been rebooked by local and International companies

The exhibitors identified trade leads worth an approximate US$ 45-50 million

Representatives of various embassies, notably the Belgian Consul, Mr. Emmanuel Rixhon and the
Honourable Trade Commissioner of the Italian Embassy, Mr. Marco Pintus, visited the event

Visits by notable industry opinion leaders, namely Mr. Wasim Zafar Qadri, Chairman of Hardware
Merchant Association and General (Retd.) Zaheer Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Machine Tool Factory
(PMTF)

A high profile delegation from IICS, a defence equipment manufacturer in Pakistan, visited the show

The Taiwan Pavilion comprised of 12 companies which were brought together under the aegis of
Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA)

Known names from CNC, welding, hand tooling, machine tools, gears, business marking and coding
products participated in the exhibition

The leading machine tools distributors and manufacturers like Kausar Trade Distributors, Equiptech,
Micado, Universal Tooling Services, Nazer Industries, Busan International, Sadidians, National Tooling
Systems and Al-Ameen Industries were among the active participants

A new CNC machine manufactured in Pakistan was launched by PMTF

Marriala Consultants had a profitable show as it secured several clients for long-term projects

The show was endorsed by the Board of Investment, Engineering Development Board, Singapore
Manufacturers Association (SMa), Association of Turkish Machine Manufacturers (MIB), Flanders
Investment & Trade (FIT)-Belgium, Wallonia Foreign Trade & Investment Agency (AWEX)- Belgium
and Pakistan Foundry Association (PFA)

FOUNDRY WORKSHOP An Interactive


Discussion Platform
In light of the growth potential and technology requirements of the
foundry industry, a high profile foundry workshop was organised in
concurrence with MTAP 2008 by the Pakistan Foundry Association.
The workshop featured two technical papers that were presented by
Mr. Javaid Ashraf, a consultant for Pakistan Foundry Association, and
Mr. Munir Ahmad, a consultant for PSQCA, Lahore. Following the
presentations, a panel of foundry experts also hosted an interactive
session for the participants to discuss remedies for various casting defects and other problems faced by the
local foundries. In addition to the distinguished speakers, the panel comprised of Mr. Mujtaba Ahmed, Deputy
CEO Bolan Castings Ltd., Mohammad Qadir Khan, GM Atlas Engineering Industries, Mr. Shahid A. Hakim,
Chief Executive Bolan Castings Limited, Major Gen. (R) Zaheer Ahmed Khan, Chairman State Engineering
Corporation and Mr. Irfan Ahmad, Joint Secretary PFA.
The workshop was largely attended by over 120 participants, which is testament to the success of this initiative.

MTAP 2009 Incorporating Foundry Equipments & Technology


It is for the first time that Machine Tools & Automation Pakistan will also display a wide range of foundry
equipments and technology in 2009.
There are around 500 foundries in Pakistan both in organised and unorganised sector which produce grey/ductile
iron castings, non-ferrous castings, steel castings, die casting and centrifugal castings. Currently, demand of
grey/ductile iron castings in Pakistan is 250-350 thousands per annum and will increase exponentially to 1
million ton after 10 years.

MEDIA COVERAGE

The show was extensively covered by local satellite channels as well as local and international newspapers
and publications.

MACHINE TOOLS & AUTOMATION PAKISTAN 2009

After the success of this years exhibition, the 5th edition of MTAP is scheduled to be held from
12 14 November, 2009 at Karachi Expo Centre.
