Welcoming Speech: Delivered by Head of English Panel, Pn. Haliza binti Hashim

The Head of English Panel welcomed all the English language teachers to the second meeting of
the year.

The HOEP reminded the secretary of English Panel to submit the meeting agendas to the
Secretary of Curriculum Panel, Pn. Rozita binti Kamaruddin .

She thanked the members present for making this meeting is possible, and thereby, being able to
gather together and discuss several matters.

Agenda
1.Confirmation of minutes of the last meeting
Obtained the approval by Mr. Hasmuni Chew, followed by the second supporter, Pn. Zuriati.

2. Current arising matters

English Language teachers were advised to amend the approach of writing Pedagogical
Lesson Plan.
Action: All English teachers

Head of Panel reminded the form five teachers to carry out ULBS according to the
schedule.
Action: Pn. Siti Farah and En.Hasmuni

Pn. Siti Farah shared some ULBS documents from the course she had attended.

3. Midterm exam analysis and post mortem

Please refer Appendix 1 for the analysis.

From the analysis, the level of English proficiency among Form 3 students this year is
low. The arising number of failures is very alarming.

Overall results for form 3 and form 5 were not very impressive as the highest
achievement was B.

Students failed the exams are due to :

1. Primarily did not attempt to answer essay section.
2. Few have never attempted to answer the aforementioned sections since they were in
Form Four.
3. Unsatisfactory Record of Presence for English Tuitions; YKK and school tuitions

Therefore, drastic measures should be taken to improve the students' result. All agreed
that students should be given more exercises on grammar and vocabulary that would
improve the students writing skills. Action: All ELTs

Pn. Haliza informed that she currently drilled her students by doing more continuous
writing essays as the section carries the highest marks in SPM Paper 1.

4. PT3 and SPM Academic Progress

Pn. Siti Farah and Pn. Che Norlin has attended a PT3 course organized by PPD Tumpat.

Pn. Siti Farah explained the new format of PT3 for the year of 2014. There are 3 separate
tests; Listening, Speaking and Written. Each test carries different marks. (Refer Appendix
2)

Form 3 teachers are automatically assigned as the assessors and markers while Mr.
Hasmuni will be assigned as one of the assessors to help the form 3 team.

Teachers were reminded to introduce the new format to students. Action: PT3 teachers

PT3 mock test will be carried out after the oral-speaking test to help students to be
familiar with the questions. Action: Pn. Siti Farah

For SPM, Pn. Haliza has arranged a few workshops that will be conducted around July,
August and September. The invited speakers would be Pn. Azlina and Mr. Adenan
Hashim. Information to: All English teachers

5. Related matters

Pn. Haliza informed that a sharing session conducted by Mr. Azizi from SMK Zainab 2
must be attended by all English Language teachers on Saturday, 16th of August 2014. The
focus will be on teaching and learning process in the classroom. The attendance is
compulsory. Action: All English teachers

Mr. Adenan will be coming every 2 weeks to observe and discuss the lesson plan. 3
teachers who have been selected are Pn. Siti Farah, Pn. Che Norlin and Mr. Chuwa.
Teachers are reminded to be prepared.
