20.

A 200V, 50 Hz single-phase supply feeds the following loads :


a) Fluorescent lamps taking a current of 8A at a power factor of 0.9 leading
b) Incandescent lamps taking a current of 6A at unity power factor
c) A motor taking a current of 12A at a power factor of 0.65 lagging.
Determine the total current taken from the supply and the overall power factor.
Find also the value of a static capacitor connected in parallel with the loads to
improve the overall power factor to 0.98 lagging
