Scenario
RAMBOLL is one of the biggest and well-known consultancy and construction company based in
London. The company offers integrated services in project management, construction,
consultancy and facilities management. They constantly strive to find better solutions to complex
infrastructure and property challenges.
The company provide a full spectrum of multidisciplinary services, from the highly strategic to the
minutely technical. Whether to master planning a city or designing a faade connection detail,
their philosophy remains the same: innovate, add value and collaborate well. They are known for
producing award-winning solutions across their whole portfolio of disciplines.
RAMBOLL has also wide-ranging expertise in the refurbishment sector. New buildings add only
1% to the building stock each year, so the remaining 99% require regular refurbishment to meet
the ever-changing demands of society. Working closely with clients, the company ensures that the
existing building refurbishment projects are economically, socially and environmentally
sustainable. For further information about RAMBOLL, please visit the following website,
http://www.ramboll.co.uk/projects.
Recently, RAMBOLL received a contract from University of Bergen, Norway, to transform an
industrial building into a functional and university building for their Arts faculty. They are planning
to have a library, learning centre, classrooms and offices within the new building. The interior
should be totally renovated with new functions, surfaces, interior fittings and upgraded technical
installations, and 1,000,000 has been allocated to fund this project.
The building should be given an independent design and expression with a strong identity and
dignity as an important university building. It will then act as a central hub and a meeting place.
The refurbishment should take place over the period of 6 months. The building would also be a
home to dynamic student life centres and student support services at the University of Bergen.
The space must provide support for the students in a socially responsible, technologically
innovative, cost effective, and energy efficient way using new and emerging technologies.
Assume that you are a member of their project management team and you have been given three
months in order to come up with the report consisting of detailed return on investment plan.
According to this given time period, the company has decided to start working on the planning
stage of this project from 28th September 2015 and be completed by 8th of January 2016.
A presentation showing the proposed plans would be presented on the 2nd week of December
2015. These will contain a Network Diagram, WBS and Gantt chart. The following areas should be
addressed in the report.
