2. Pakistan Patrind Hydro Power Project ( 150 MW) Daewoo E&C South Korea
Duration: February 2012 to September 2014
I joined Daewoo Engineering and Construction (a Korea based world known organization) as a Tunnel
Engineer/Geologist in February, 2013. The Project is entitled as Construction of 147 MW Patrind Hydro Power
Project, AJ&K.
Responsibilities: Being a Tunnel Engineer/ Geological Engineer I was engaged in the following tasks at the project:
Conduct face mapping at each station and analyze that data by using standardized Geotechnical
Classification method Rock Mass Rating (RMR) in order to define the Rock Grade. Decide the
reinforcement (systematic & random rock bolt, fore poling, pipe roof etc.,) and direction of rock bolts to
be installed at each excavated face and confirm it after installation. Also decide the type (H-beam and
Lattice girder) and position of support to be installed and confirm it after installation. Check the results
of rock bolt pulling test and Shotcrete test by QA/QC according to specifications.
Preparation and record the Geological data for the each station. Data includes Checklist,
Face and
wall
Mapping,
Blasting
Pattern
and
Blasting
Results
of
each
station.
Investigating the ground water status at each face.
Monitoring the weak zones (fault, fracture zone, shear zone etc.,), decide the most suitable excavating
method by considering the geological features such as geological rock condition, upper ground level
circumstances.
Undertake
investigations regarding rock falling, collapse/failure at weak zones and take appropriate measurements
to prevent the rock falling. Reducing the over break during the excavation as small as possible.
Checking invoice of subcon. Convergence and Crown settlement Monitoring (Geodetic Survey &
Extensometer). Preparation of Method statement of Water way Tunnel, Letter responding and
documentation, Slope Mapping of Access Roads, Supervision (Quality Control) of Powerhouse
permanent slope excavation and protection works (PT Anchors, Shotcrete, Rock bolt Grouting.) slope
stability work.
I worked on detail design geology volume, rock quality and ground water chapters.
Compiled geology volume annexure of borehole logs, core photos, in-situ tests and water data.
I assessed rock quality from borehole logs and scanline data
Calculated RMR (rock mass rating), GSI (geological strength index) and Q-system values, which were
incorporated in the final design report.
I was responsible for project drilling data of 11000 meters for the whole project, which included
borehole logs, packer tests results, constant head permeability tests, water elevation, water
temperature, SPT and CPT data for each borehole.
Supervised laboratory tests on rocks e.g. Brazilian tests, triaxial tests, Schmidt hammer, point load test
and sieve analysis, unconfined compressive test, permeability tests on soil samples.
Used HoleBase 3.1 to keep projects exploratory drilling database. It accommodated core recovery,
geology and discontinuity data in a borehole log along with insitu tests.
Used dips software for scanline data of surface mapping and adits wall mapping for rock discontinuity
analysis in final design report.

Based on drilling and scanline data drafted fault zone subsurface geological conditions report for power
tunnels design.
Drafted project progress report on weekly and monthly basis and corresponded with site office on
numerous day to day issues.
Conducted landslide investigation/stability study along the proposed Skardu Road of 22 km stretch.

between MWH, NORPLAN, NESPAK, ACE, NDC)

Responsibilities:
Supervised and monitored excavation with (TBM) Excavation of tunnels (D&B, TBM)
Preparation of weekly, monthly Production repots and delays analysis
Responsibilities in the project include Excavation (D & B) for tunnels and power house cavern,
Geological/Geotechnical Mapping and Rock support Evaluation,
Supervision of blasting works,
Supervision of rock support with Lattice Girders, Shotcrete Ribs, Rock bolts (Expansion shell end
anchored rock bolts, resin anchored rock bolts, Fully cement grouted rock bolts ) and Shotcreeting
(Fiber reinforced shotcreeting, shotcreeting with wire mesh), Grouting, Probing.
Modelling on Phase II software, Preparation of geological sections along Headrace tunnel and of Power
House complex (Structure Contouring).
Wedge analysis in power house complex using Dips and Unwedge softwares, Insitue testing (over
coring, hydro jacking), Review and self-check of engineering drawings, Forecasting, Co-ordinate with
internal project support departments to ensure design constructability, documentation & Revision of BOQ.
Recommended crown and walls initial support for head race tunnel walls depending on rock condition
encountered.
Checked contractors rock assessment and compared ours with it for payment approval.
Inspected site before a concrete job as per design specification.
Supervised concrete pressure tunnel lining for crown, walls and invert.
Supervised cushion concreting on invert of power tunnels.
Checked quality of each concrete pour, look for water lenses, cracks, and segregation and cold joints.
Used to check slump of concrete, amount of admixture, transportation time of each mixer trucks.
Concrete pour time, use of concrete vibrators during pour which gave acceptable results.
Supervised concrete cylinders casting and compression tests
Revised mix design water and admixture quantities.
Issued several site instructions for improvements.
Suggested easy and time saving methods of invert cushion concrete pouring.
Regularly reviewed and self-checked engineering drawings.
