You might think that 20 percent of the American
Congress going on all-expenses-paid, weeklong
junkets to a foreign country paid for by a lobby for
that country would be newsworthy, especially when
the top congressional leaders of both parties are
leading the trips.

Eighty-one congressional representatives from all over

the country, led by Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer and
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, are traveling to
Israel this month. Most are freshmen congressmen,
and the group includes half of all the freshmen
Republicans voted into office in 2010.

The weeklong trips are being paid for by the American

Israel Education Foundation (AIEF), which was created
in 1990 as a supporting organization of AIPAC,
Americas major pro-Israel lobbying organization, and
they are located in the same building. AIEF, which is
only one of numerous organizations pushing pro-Israel
policies, has an annual budget of over $24 million,
with an even larger endowment.
This is an extraordinary situation. No other lobby on
behalf of a foreign country comes anywhere near
controlling such wealth or taking so many of Americas
elected representatives on a propaganda trip to its
favorite country.
Not all those going on these trips are enthusiastic. The

A staff member of one representative participating in
this months junkets said the representative had no
choice. If the congressional rep didnt go on the trip,
the rep would be targeted by AIPAC; large quantities
of money, including massive out-of-state money,
would be raised for the opponent in the next election;
and quite likely the representative would be defeated.
The staffer said that the Israel Lobby is far too
powerful to ignore and that American voters have no
knowledge of whats going on.
Its no surprise that voters are unaware that their
representatives are being propagandized and
pressured by a foreign lobby. Their news media almost
never tells them.
The Associated Press, Americas number one news
service, has decided not to report on a lobbying group
taking 81 representatives to a foreign country in order
to influence their votes.
Even though the trips are being reported by news
media in Britain, Iran, India, Israel, Lebanon, and
elsewhere, AP has decided to give the story a pass.
When contacted about this, an AP editor in
Washington, D.C., said AP knew about the trips and
was looking into it.
Taking a similar tack, The New York Times, USA
Today, Fox News, CNN, ABC, et al., failed to inform
Americans about the trips. The Washington Post, after
the story was posted throughout the blogosphere,
finally covered it belatedly on Page 13. The CBS
website had a story on the situation, but CBS News
made no mention of the junkets on-air.
The only AP stories on the subject are scattered local
stories about individual representatives. For example,
APs Chicago bureau reported that Congressman Jesse
Jackson Jr. is taking part, without reporting that he
was one of 81 representatives accepting these allexpenses-paid junkets and that his trip was being paid
for by the pro-Israel lobby.
A few other American media outlets reported the story
in interestingly diverse ways:
Washingtons Politico covered it twice; The Atlantics
website reported on people who were kvetching
about the one-sided nature of the junkets, pointing out
that some of the reps were also going to meet with
some Palestinian leaders, without telling how many
(no one will say) and for how long (apparently for a
few hours of the weeklong trip). Los Angeles Jewish
Journal was remarkably forthright, reporting that the
congressional reps will be getting the dog and pony
show, and Commentary gloated at the astonishing
number of representatives going on the trip, noting
that Congress is the backstop that gives Israeli Prime
Minister Netanyahu the ability to say no to the
president of the United States.

Surveys find that an extraordinarily strong majority of
Americans typically between two-thirds to threequarters do not wish the U.S. to take sides on
Israel-Palestine. Such widespread desire for neutrality
is particularly noteworthy given that U.S. news sources
across the political spectrum are consistently highly
Israel-centric in their reporting.
It is quite likely that such voters would be unhappy to
learn that a foreign lobby has such power over their
elected representatives, leading them to give the
favored nation, one of the smallest and wealthiest
countries on the planet, over $8 million per day of
American tax money when the U.S. is in the middle of
a financial crisis.
Perhaps thats why AP and the others dont tell them.

represent you and I...I would posit that they are committing
TREASON.

ensuring U.S. military aid to Israel and U.S. support for Israeli
occupation and apartheid.

them that you support the complaint filed against the AIPAC trips,

Article III Section 3 of the United States Constitution defines

"treason" thusly: "Treason against the United States, shall
consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their
Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort."
American support, financial or otherwise, may or may not be
good public policy, but the very fact that we are presently giving
aid to Israel, and that aid is supported by an Administration
regard by many Israelis and supporters of Israel as not very
supportive, would seem to refute the idea that Israel meets any
legal definition of the word "enemy."
Taking trips paid for by Israel or its supporters, or any other
nation or its supporters, may or may not be a bad idea for
legislators. If Marty Markowitz can be criticized, I suppose others
are also fair game.
But, in America, unlike countries with far more restrictive civil
liberties, "treason" has a very specific and limited meaning.
Supporting aid to Israel, or excepting pro-Israel junkets, may or
may not be a good thing, but it ain't "treason."
I suggest you come up with another word.

According to former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff fourstar Admiral Thomas Moorer, Israel committed "an act of war
against the United States" in 1967. It also regularly spies on the
U.S. and has on occasion given purloined technology to other
American adversaries. That would, by many definitions, make it
an enemy.

Let's begin with Henry Ford.
Ford paid his employees a wage that allowed them to purchase
the very vehicles they were producing - the best advertising a
business could get.
Christopher Hitchens claims to be "the smartest man in the
room"...but we've never shared a room,so the jury's out on that.
This is the first I've read of Alison Weir's work, but tell me - are
there or are there NOT 81 members of Congress slated to
journey to Israel?
What's good for Israel does not correlate to being good for
America. That is a FACT.
Remember Bibi's words on September 11th, 2001?
"The Israeli newspaper Ma'ariv on Wednesday
reported that Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu
told an audience at Bar Ilan university that the
September 11, 2001 terror attacks had been
beneficial for Israel.
"We are benefiting from one thing, and that is the
attack on the Twin Towers and Pentagon, and the
American struggle in Iraq," Ma'ariv quoted the
former prime minister as saying. He reportedly
added that these events "swung American public
opinion in our favor."
Sounds great for America. You mean, America didn't feel
sympathetic for all of those years before 9/11?
Let's get this straight. I know exactly where you're aiming here.
I am an American. My duty is to my country FIRST, SECOND
AND LAST. We need to get things in order here, and that cannot
be done when nearly a FIFTH of our "representatives" are
feeding at the tit of a foreign nation.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Strong, credible allegations of high-level criminal activity can
bring down a government. When the government lacks an
effective, fact-based defense, other techniques must be
employed. The success of these techniques depends heavily
upon a cooperative, compliant press and a mere token
opposition party.
Dummy up. If it's not reported, if it's not news, it didn't

happen.
Wax indignant. This is also known as the "How dare you?"

gambit.
Characterize the charges as "rumors" or, better yet, "wild

rumors." If, in spite of the news blackout, the public is still
able to learn about the suspicious facts, it can only be
through "rumors." (If they tend to believe the "rumors" it
must be because they are simply "paranoid" or
"hysterical.")
Knock down straw men. Deal only with the weakest

aspects of the weakest charges. Even better, create your
own straw men. Make up wild rumors (or plant false
stories) and give them lead play when you appear to
debunk all the charges, real and fanciful alike.
Call the skeptics names like "conspiracy theorist,"

"nutcase," "ranter," "kook," "crackpot," and, of course,
"rumor monger." Be sure, too, to use heavily loaded verbs
and adjectives when characterizing their charges and
defending the "more reasonable" government and its
defenders. You must then carefully avoid fair and open
debate with any of the people you have thus maligned. For
insurance, set up your own "skeptics" to shoot down.
Impugn motives. Attempt to marginalize the critics by

suggesting strongly that they are not really interested in
the truth but are simply pursuing a partisan political
agenda or are out to make money (compared to overcompensated adherents to the government line who,
presumably, are not).

Dismiss the charges as "old news."
Come half-clean. This is also known as "confession and

avoidance" or "taking the limited hangout route." This way,
you create the impression of candor and honesty while you
admit only to relatively harmless, less-than-criminal
"mistakes." This stratagem often requires the embrace of a
fall-back position quite different from the one originally
taken. With effective damage control, the fall-back position
need only be peddled by stooge skeptics to carefully
limited markets.
Characterize the crimes as impossibly complex and the

truth as ultimately unknowable.
Reason backward, using the deductive method with a

vengeance. With thoroughly rigorous deduction,
troublesome evidence is irrelevant. E.g. We have a
completely free press. If evidence exists that the Vince
Foster "suicide" note was forged, they would have reported
it. They haven't reported it so there is no such evidence.
Another variation on this theme involves the likelihood of a
conspiracy leaker and a press who would report the leak.
Require the skeptics to solve the crime completely. E.g. If

Foster was murdered, who did it and why?
Change the subject. This technique includes creating

and/or publicizing distractions.
Lightly report incriminating facts, and then make nothing of

them. This is sometimes referred to as "bump and run"
reporting.
Baldly and brazenly lie. A favorite way of doing this is to

attribute the "facts" furnished the public to a plausiblesounding, but anonymous, source.
Expanding further on numbers 4 and 5, have your own

stooges "expose" scandals and champion popular causes.
Their job is to pre-empt real opponents and to play 99-yard
football. A variation is to pay rich people for the job who
will pretend to spend their own money.
Flood the Internet with agents. This is the answer to the

question, "What could possibly motivate a person to spend
hour upon hour on Internet news groups defending the
government and/or the press and harassing genuine
critics?" Don t the authorities have defenders enough in all
the newspapers, magazines, radio, and television? One
would think refusing to print critical letters and screening
out serious callers or dumping them from radio talk shows
would be control enough, but, obviously, it is not.

This time of year it is worth remembering Mein Kampf, the
turgid and unreadable Bible of the Nazi movement that was
published back in July of 1925. The last time I looked, you could
still buy it at the international airport newstand in the Malaysian
capital of Kuala Lumpur along with other classics of antiSemitism like the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and the
collected rants of Henry Ford in the Dearborn Independent.
Jeffrey Goldberg tells me that he recently saw Hitlers
masterwork on the bestseller shelf of the Borders book store at
the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai.
When Hitler wrote, it was still socially OK to be an anti-Semite.
In some circles it was mandatory. As a consequence of Hitlers
lifes work, it is now as unfashionable to be an anti-Semite as it
is to name your child Adolf.
The truth is that anti-Semitism is alive and well and not even
particularly rare; its just that many of todays anti-Semites like
to think of themselves as enlightened, modern people and get all
huffy and hissy if anyone accuses them of prejudice in any form.
Many who in past times would have been open and honest about
their anti-Semitism, now try to hide the truth even from
themselves.
But anti-Semitism involves belief in any or all of the following
ideas:

As a religious and national minority, Jews cannot flourish without
attacking the traditional values of their host society. In every
country Jews seek to weaken national culture, religion, values
and cohesion.
Jews are not a national group or a people in the way that others

Where Jewish interests are concerned, the appearance of open
debate in our society and many others is a carefully constructed
illusion. In reality, Jews work together to block open debate on
issues they care about and those who resist the Jewish agenda
are marginalized in public discussion.
These ideas are the five pillars of anti-Semitism; you dont have
to believe them all any one will do. Being an anti-Semite does
not necessarily make you a Nazi. You are an anti-Semite. That
doesnt make you a Nazi; Hitler added a sixth pillar of antiSemitism that the only way to successfully oppose the Jewish
agenda was to kill all the Jews.
Since Hitlers death, the world has defined anti-Semitism down.
Nurturing ancient fantasies of secret Jewish cabals that control
the media and play politicians like puppets on a string, and
making political judgments based on these fantasies isnt sort of
or almost anti-Semitic. To believe that Jews control public
discourse and the media and bend the gentile masses to their
sinister agenda is the essence of old fashioned anti-Semite. In
some countries these beliefs are so common that they are no
longer recognized as an aggressive and communicable mental
disease. These ideas have become so widely accepted that they
are seldom questioned or examined; when that happens, a
whole society is poisoned and distorted.
On the anniversary of Mein Kampfs publication people of good
will everywhere should remember the need to fight one of the
most vicious forms of prejudice that the world has ever known.
Prejudice never recognizes itself; anti-Semites honestly think
their delusional beliefs about Jews are simple, obvious truths.
They are not; all five of those beliefs are demonstrably false.
In Nazi Germany people were imprisoned and even killed for
trying to fight anti-Semitism. In America we are free to fight it,
but too many of us choose to ignore this hate that dares not
speak its name. Anti-Semitism is real, it is murderous, and it is
very much with us today. Speak the truth and shame the devil.
Whatever your religion, your politics, your views about Israeli
policy, fighting anti-Semitism is part of what it means to be a
decent human being.
We must all do our part to keep this filthy hatred in the
ignominious pit where it belongs.

Let's take those points as they were posited:
1) Asking what benefit the trips were is a legit question. But
even they were no benefit, they were not a capital offense. That
was my point. And why the obsession about Israel and only
Israel?
You provide an EXCUSE, not an answer to the posed question.
We pay our representatives, and in return, they are to enact our
will in the form of legislation.
In many of the jobs I've had, there is a Conflict of Interest
provision that clearly states that one cannot directly receive
compensation while employed.
Are you stating that there exists no opportunity for those 81
representatives to encounter any conflict of interest in receiving
funding? Taking all-expense trips?
If these trips were offered to regular Americans who held no
affiliation with representing Americans, well, there wouldn't be
an issue...but there is.
Does Israel truly expect NOTHING in return for these junkets?
You should be honest here, and understand that this IS a HUGE
issue. We'll come back to that - maybe I'll post a comprehensive
analysis of these junkets.
2) You never answere the Mead question. Do you really think
any of those ideas he lisited an as anti-Semitic are defensible?
Which ones? Which ones do you embrace? Why so sensitive?
Truth needs NO DEFENSE.
Your question, much like the one posed by JACK, is a "did you
stop beating your wife" question. Apparently, you missed the
point of my posting David Martin's 17 Techniques for Truth
Suppression.
You set up a straw-man argument, and I didn't fall for it.

3) What was with the picture of the praying Hasidic boy, Vince?
Is his praying in some way relevant to the asshole with the
beer? In fact, what was with that post? Is the asshole with a
beer suppsoed to be indicative of some larger problem? What
problem would that be? Or do you just have a problem with

In my opinion, the "asshole with the beer", as you so quaintly

put it, committed a HATE CRIME against his neighbors, and the
events should never have been allowed to escalate to the level
of this freak feeling confident enough to ACTUALLY EMPTY THE

4) Why do you find it necessary to only write approving of Henry
Ford, who was responsible for some of the most despicable hate
literature ever circulated in America? Do you think his
achievement wash this away?
FREE SPEECH also covers "speech" in which one doesn't agree.
Do you know that Henry and his family were targeted by a bomb
attempt? Does his distribution of that material condone an
attack on his life, and the life of his family?

was a standard excuse for killing and imprisoning Jews for a

Grunfeld said Tuesday she may have

misunderstood the context and intent
of Johnstons remarks, but that fact is
insignificant. The words, Jews should
be sterilized still came out of his
mouth, so regardless of the context I
still think thats pretty serious.
Grunfeld also expressed skepticism
that Johnston was in fact Jewish.
Asked directly by a reporter whether
she believes Johnston is lying, she
was unclear. Whether he is or is not,
no one will know, she said. . . .
Maybe he thought because he is
