PRE- REQUISITES

Pupil have knowledge about triangle

Pupil have knowledge about quadrilateral
Pupil have knowledge about sum of the angles of a triangle
Pupil have knowledge about sum of the angles of a quadrilateral

TEACHING LEARNING AIDS

Placard containing different types of polygon and number of sides
Chart containing different types of polygon and sum of angles
Flash card containing equation of sum of angle of polygon
Activity card
Usual Classroom material

CLASSROOM PROCESS
INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY
Teacher begin the class by checking previous
knowledge teacher ask the students about
geometry,

PUPIL RESPONSE

What is geometry?

Pupil replied, Geometry is the study of shapes

PRESENTATION
Geometry is originated from greek word Geo
and metry geo means earth and metry means
measure .So geometry is called measure of
earth, Teacher explained
Euclid is the father of geometry.
Teacher showing a photo of Euclid

Pupil Looking Carefully

ACTIVITY
Teacher drawing a triangle on Black Board and
asked the peculiarities

Pupil replied it has 3edges and 3vertices

Teacher drawing a rectangle on Black Board

and asked the peculiarities

Pupil Replied it has 4 edges and 4vertices

Teacher drawing a pentagon on Black Board

and asked the peculiarities

Pupil replied it has 5 sides and 5 vertices

A figure having five sides and 5 angles are called

pentagon, six sides and six angles from hexagon,
seven side and seven angles form heptagon. The
name of the polygon differ as the number of
sides Increases.

the different types of polygon and number of
sides

ACTIVITY
Teacher drawing a triangle and asked
What is the sum of the angle of a triangle

Pupil replied 1800

Teacher drawing a quadrilateral on black board

and asked

How can you divide this in to two triangles?

Pupil replied , by drawing a diagonal

Teacher drawing on Black Board

What is the total angle ?Teacher asked

Teacher drawing a pentagon on black board and
explained that pentagon can be divided in to 3
triangles, taking a vertex skipping a near by
vertex and joining the next hence these
diagonals are drawn.

Pupil replied 2x1800 =3600

Teacher drawing on black board

Teacher asked how many triangle are formed?

Pupil replied 3

What is the sum of angles?

Pupil replied 3x1800

Similarly , we can divide

The hexagon into a triangle teacher drawing on
black board

How many triangle are formed teacher asked?

Pupil replied 4

What is the sum of the angle of a hexagon

teacher asked

Pupil replied 4x1800

After showing the chart teacher asked,

Is there any relation between number of sides
and triangle formed by drawing diagonal to the
polygon

Pupil replied,
The number of triangle is two less than the
number of sides of polygon

Can you say what is the sum of the angles of a 10

sided polygon

Pupil replied
8x1800=14400

Generally we can say that the sum of the angle

of an n sided polygon is (n-2)x1800
Teacher Explained

The sum of the angles of an n sided
polygon is (n-2)x1800

ACTIVITY
Teacher divide the student into group and given
activity card which contain following question
What is the sum of the angle of a 52 sided
polygon?

FOLLOW UP ACTIVITY
REVIEW
