Child obesity results from poor eating habits. Daily
consumption of fast food and junk food has dominated
over healthy food choices. With child obesity in North
America tripling over the past 20 years, what kids are
eating has become a major concern. Here are some dos
and don'ts for parents to help a pattern for a healthy life-
style for their kids:

1. Do set a good example for your child to copy. Eat at

the same time and eat the same healthy foods.

2. Do discourage snacking on sweets and fatty

foods. Keep plenty of healthy foods, such as fruits, raw
vegetables, low-fat crackers, and yogurt, around for
children to eat between meals.

3. Do allow children to follow their natural appetites when

deciding how much to eat.

4. Do encourage children to enjoy fruits and vegetables

by giving them a variety from an early age.

5. Don't give skim or 1-percent-fat milk to children under

the age of 5 unless your doctor prescribes it; at this stage,
children need the extra calories in whole milk.

6. Do ask children to help prepare meals. If parents rely

mostly on convenience foods, children may not learn to
enjoy cooking.

7. Don't add unnecessary sugar to drinks and foods.

8. Don't accustom children to extra salt by adding it to

food or placing the shaker on the table.

9. Don't give whole nuts to children under the age of 5,

who may choke on them. Peanut butter and chopped nuts
are fine as long as the child is not allergic to them.

10. Don't force children to eat more than they want.

11. Don't use food as a bribe.

12. Don't make children feel guilty about eating any type
of food.

Remember to also let your child get plenty of exercise.

Exercise will make any healthy eating plan work even
better. While a healthful diet can reduce your risk of
many diseases, adding regular physical activity can do
even more.

Music is not the same kind of product that a
shoe is. You don't sell a shoe the same way you
sell a CD. If you want to sell a shoe, the shoe
itself will not object too much about how you
sell it. Not so with music. The artists and bands
that make music have an emotional
investment in their creation. As 'artists' they
concentrate more on the creative side of
music, and rarely are they well versed in the
intricacies of the business world. So, as
creative creatures they can easily develop
conflicting opinions on how their 'art' should be
marketed.

Songwriters may write songs as a creative

expression. Musicians and singers may record
a version of that song, but a record label pays
the bills for the recording, and then has to find
a way to convince listeners of the song that
owning it will bring some kind of pleasure to
their lives. Business people usually know more
about commerce than art, so the tensions that
exist because of this dynamic can lead to
misunderstandings, and misunderstandings
can lead to disappointments for all parties
involved.

Many solo artists and bands that get signed to

record labels get themselves into trouble with
record label executives because they think the
only thing that is important is the music itself,
while the record label executives and their
team of promotional representatives have very
little emotional investment in the songs they
promote.

From their point of view, it is the responsibility

of a record label to find a business way to sell
the recording they invested in. They may try to
preserve the emotional investment their act's

Barack Obama is right.

Now some say he is just sucking up to White people in order to get

their votes but so what if he is. His message is not any less true.

We need our Black men involved in our children's lives so that

Black boys know how to be a good man and Black girls have an
idea of what a good man is.

There is no disputing the reports that children who have fathers

involved in their education do better as a group. There is no
disputing that these same children are less likely to end up in
prison. There is no disputing that these children are less likely to
grow up in poverty.

Black men, we owe it to our children to make sure that they do

better than we did. The true measure of a man is not how tough
you are, what kind of car you have, how much money you have. It's
not any of that. It's how you take care of "Yours". The true measure
of a man is how you ensure your children's future.

That being said, let's not forget that the majority of Black fathers do
the right thing. Yeah, I know about the 70% number of Black
children born to single mothers but that does not equate to 70% of
Black men not being involved in their children's lives. That only
means that they don't live with the mother.

One last point. It's just not Black men that need to step up. If you
have ever been to a PTA meeting or Parent/Teacher Night forget
color and just count the number of men that are there. I'm sure
women will outnumber them at least 3 to 1 if not more. So while
this is an issue that has the spotlight shining on Black fathers it is
not unique to them.

To all the good Black fathers out there keep doing what you are
doing and set the example. Although you are rarely acknowledged
even by our own, I just want to let you know that you are
appreciated.

Some may frown on you dating an older guy, but there are
plenty of reasons to do so. Having your own personal Sugar
Daddy has its benefits and if you are attracted to the guy,
then this is just the type of relationship you need. Forget
what your friends say, ignore those who call you a gold
digger and enjoy yourself.

1. Older men are more mature than guys your own

age, as you‟ve probably noticed. If you‟re tired of
fooling around with kids and would like a more
stable relationship, get yourself a sugar daddy.

2. You will get more respect in a Sugar Daddy

relationship. Older men know how to treat a
woman, open doors for her, and generally
respect her, they were raised in another time
when these things were still taught.

3. Everyone has baggage, whether it‟s scars from a

bad childhood, failed relationships or even
children. Sugar Daddies are usually more
tolerant of these issues than a younger guy,
since they have more life experience.

4. Most women feel safer around an older man,

particularly when meeting for the first time after
carrying on an online or telephone relationship.
Sugar Daddies understand that safety is
important to you and that you are nervous on the
first meeting, so they‟ll be happy to meet in a
public place to set your mind at ease.

5. Sugar Daddies not only know where the best

restaurants are, they can actually afford to take
you there.

6. Older men are usually far more supportive of

your dreams and ambitions and may have an
idea of how you can reach them. They will often
help you attain your goals, as well.

7. Sexually speaking, Sugar Daddies tend to be

more interested in pleasing their partner than
reaching a quick climax. For the younger woman
used to selfish, twenty-something men, this can
be a huge benefit..

8. Sugar Daddies know how to make you feel

special. While gifts and vacations to Miami may
be part of that, it is really more about treating
you well, respecting you and paying attention to
you, something most younger men wouldn‟t do.

9. Long term relationships are more probable with

an older man. Your Sugar Daddy will have
already done all the wild things he dreamed of in
his youth and is most likely now ready to settle
down. If you‟re looking for a serious relationship,
an older man will provide it.

10. Romance-wise, Sugar Daddies are far better

than younger men. They‟ve had years of
experience to learn just what women want and
they know how to please you.
