STARe Evaluaton Software

Introduction

The STARe Evaluation Software can be run independently of the METTLER TOLEDO STARe Software. If the STARe Software is however already installed, the STARe Evaluation Software can not be installed on
the same computer.
No license is required. You can evaluate data from a STARe TA system.
The STARe Evaluation Software includes all the features that are included in the base software version of the STARe Software Evaluation Window. It is not possible to install software options, however.
Additionally, the STARe Evaluation Software includes the Database menu
which features commands to load, backup and rename databases. It also
features commands to rename the user of the database and to define the
folder in which the database is stored.

To import data into the STARe Evaluation Software the following commands can be used:
Load command on the Database menu
Import command on the File menu
You can import databases from a STARe TA system running version 10
of the STARe Software by using the Load command on the Database
menu. Please follow the instructions in the online Help for this. It is however not possible to import databases from earlier versions by using the
Load command on the Database menu.
Data from earlier versions of the STARe Software than version 10 can be
imported by using the Import command on the File menu.

The current version of the STARe Evaluation Software is version 10.

Please note that METTLER TOLEDO cannot guarantee at present that
database backups created with this version can be used with future versions of the STARe Evaluation Software or the STARe Software. The
possibility of updating backups is however a strong feature request for future versions of both software products.
You can import the data you have evaluated with the STARe Evaluation
Software into the STARe Software as follows:
Export the data using the Export command on the File menu of the
STARe Evaluation Software.
Import the data into the STARe Software by using the Import command
on the File menu of the Evaluation Window.
It is not possible to import databases from the STARe Evaluation Software in to a STARe TA system.

STARe Evaluation Software.

Installation Instructions

Introduction

The following installation instructions show you how to install the

STARe Evaluation Software and its components.
One of the following Windows operating systems should be properly installed before you install the STARe Evaluation Software.
Windows XP Professional (32-bit)
Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise, Ultimate (32bit & 64-bit)
In sections of the following text that apply to all of the above mentioned
operating systems, the name "Windows" is used for short, referring to all
operating systems. Where it is necessary to refer to only one particular
operating system, the full name is specified.

Before you begin installing the STARe Evaluation Software we

recommend that you read the following sections on system requirements.

Make sure that the hardware meets the following requirements:

To install the PC, follow the instructions for your Personal

Computer.

Supplements to the standard Windows installation

Administrator rights during installation

To install the STARe Evaluation Software, a Windows user

with local administrator rights assigned is required.

Windows user
account stareusr

A local Windows user account stareusr is automatically created by the STARe Evaluation Software setup program.
This user is assigned Windows administrator rights. This is
necessary to run the STARe Evaluation Software.

required disk space:

Sufficient space must be available on your hard disk. 3 GB

free space is recommended:
Enough disk space for your own entries in the database
must be provided. Typically, at least 300 MB extra space is
required. Please take into account that twice the amount of
disk space as required for the database must be available
additionally to perform a backup of a database.
In general, not more than 90% of the hard disk space should
be used.

Installation procedure

The following procedure is recommended for the initial installation of the STARe Evaluation Software. Besides the actual
STARe Evaluation Software program components, DB2 database management system (DBMS) software is also installed.
The following list summarizes the installation steps:
Install the STARe Evaluation Software
(1)

Log on as a local Windows user with administrator rights.

(2)

Run the file setup.exe.

You are guided through the installation procedure.

(3)

On first start of the STARe Evaluation Software, prepare

for normal usage as follows:
 Define the database folder (see below).
 Load a database (see below).

Define the database folder

The Define Database Folder dialog box appears on first start.

Enter the desired path of the database folder in the Database Folder box or navigate to the desired folder by clicking the ellipsis button (...).

Click OK.

The specified database folder is created.

Load database
The Load Database dialog box appears on first start.

Under Source, select the source from which you want to

load the database:
 To load a database from a hard disk or a network
drive: Click Backup File on Disk. Then click the ellipsis
button (...) and navigate to the database file you want
to load or enter its path and file name in the File box.
 To load an original METTLER TOLEDO database that
corresponds to the ICTA sign convention: Click Original ICTA Database (ICTA: "Exothermal effects upward, endothermic effects downward").
 To load an original METTLER TOLEDO database that
corresponds to the anti-ICTA sign convention: Click
Original A-ICTA Database (Anti-ICTA: "Exothermal effects downward, endothermic effects upward").

Note: You can cancel the procedure at this point by clicking Cancel.

Click OK to load the database.

The load process is started and a dialog box is displayed showing
how far the load process has progressed. The dialog box is closed
automatically when the load process is completed.

You have now loaded the database.

Tip: If problems occur during the load procedure, you can obtain additional information by opening with a text editor file qdb_mnt.log log in the
...\log folder of your STARe Evaluation Software. In the default installation the path is
C:\Program Files\Mettler Toledo\STAReSW.
