INTRODUCTION
PD 300 MODELS
PD300 units are digital based protection relays that incorporate simultaneously in a single unit a great number of protection functions to create a solution adapted to any users
need.
MECHANICAL CONSTRUCTIONS
The units are available in the following mechanical constructions:
PD 300 Horizontal case
APPLICATION
PD300 differential protections are used as the main protection and control units for two and three winding power
transformers, for both internal faults and faults in the influence area of current transformers.
PD300 units require no intermediate transformers to adjust
connection set ratio, as these adjustments are made by the
relay itself. Moreover, it has homopolar filter.
PD300-2
2 MODEL
PD300-2 unit is a complete two winding protection unit. As
well as the differential protection unit, it includes overcurrent
and overexcitation protection units.

3 MODEL
PD300-3 is a three or two winding power transformer protection unit. Its features include differential units for primary
protection and overcurrent protection unit as a backup.

PROTECTION FUNCTIONS
Differential unit (87)
This is an overcurrent function used on the current measured at the grounding of a power transformer, being its function to detect faults to earth. Each unit features two instantaneous levels and one time delay. It can be used as tank
protection.
Neutral overcurrent (50N/51N)
This is an overcurrent function applied to the vectorial sum
of phase currents, being its function to detect faults to
earth. Each winding features two instantaneous levels and
one time delay.
Current unbalance (46)
This function protects the installation against current unbalances resulting from anomalies in the power system or
unbalanced loads.
Thermal Image (49)
The thermal image unit protects the transformer against
damage resulting from heating up during overloads. This
unit is based on the calculation of winding temperature via
thermal image.
It verifies the breaker correct actuation clearing a fault, causing, otherwise, the trip of the necessary breakers to clear
that fault
PD300-2 units has two overexcitation units, based on different overexcitation detection methods:
V/Hz ( two independent levels)
5th harmonic
AUTOMATISMS
Programmable logic
Relays programme with this function will act when the differential unit acts (instantaneous or percentage type) so that
they can be used as a locking device for breaker close circuits.
Protection function locking
Each protection function may be locked via a digital input or
a logic function.
MONITORING FUNCTIONS
Breaker monitoring
Breaker supervision by winding, generating stadistics of:
Breaker actuation
SkI2 cut
Generates an event and sends a signal to the control unit
when:
The SkI2 counter, after a trip, exceeds the threshold set.
The trips exceed a preset number in a set time.
Trip and close circuit supervision (74/C/CC)
Detects any anomalies in the circuit with the switch open or
close.
Measurements
300 presents:
Additionally, the PD-3
Unit temperature measurement
Optionally: Battery voltage measurement. The battery
voltage measurement is executed using the units power
supply input
Events recording
Fault records
The unit stores in non volatile memory the last 400 events,
which can be retrieved from a PC, with the following data:
Date and time of the event
Descriptive text of the event
Values of electrical parameters
The last 20 faults are stored in the non volatile memory, with
the following data:
Date and time of the fault pickup, beggining and end.
Prefault and fault values of electrical parameters
Duration and type of fault
Level of electrical parameters at the fault's ocurrence
time
Historical reports
Demand maximeter
The unit stores the maximum current value, plus the time
tag for the moment when it occurs.
Time synchronization
Via communications
Via demodulated IRIG-B input
The unit has clock with backup battery.
Setting tables
The unit has 4 setting tables. The active table selection can
be made through the keyboard/display, command from the
protections console or digital input activation.

Note 1: For models with 2 communications ports the communication protocol of the port COM-2 is programmable and the one of the port COM-1 is always Procome
protocol.
Note 2: When T box type is selected, the rear communication option to select must be T: Internal communication for TCP
Note 3: In the case of two winding tranformers, the second winding phase currents have a common point. ( Take this into account, in the case of several units connected to
the same CTs)
In the case of three winding tranformers, the third winding phase currents have a common point. ( Take this into account, in the case of several units connected to the same
CTs)
