Error Codes
Warning Messages
While Error Codes (below) generally result from some kind of hardware or equipment
problem, Warning Message displays are frequently the result of operator error:
overloading the fryer, for example, or starting a cook cycle before the fryer has
recovered to setpoint.
In addition, Warning Messages may alert the user to suspected hardware problems -like failed heating elements -- where the suspicion is based on observed temperature
behavior rather than direct sensing of the heater operation. In general, Warning
Messages are activated based on user actions or based on the actual performance of
the fryer.
When a Warning Message is generated, the controller shows a Warning Code ("W-3")
in the left side of the display, and shows a descriptive message ("WAS NOT READY",
"LOADED BEFORE READY LIGHT") in the rest of the display. The speaker sounds a
warbling tone -- like a telephone sound -- for about two seconds, then continues to
sound a short beep once per second for the rest of the message display, then repeats.
Warning Messages are canceled by pressing the CANCEL button (#2). All warnings
are rescinded as soon as the CANCEL button is pressed, though another, pending
warning may immediately take its place.

Description
This warning message is activated at the start of a cook cycle if
the controller determines that the user loaded product before
the oil temperature had returned to the "Ready" range.
The oil temperature should always be in the Ready range (5F
below setpoint to 15F above setpoint) before product is loaded
and a cook cycle is started.
If the oil temperature was below the Ready range when the
product was loaded, the "Was Not Ready" warning will be
activated as soon as the cook cycle is started. Press the
"Cancel" button (#2) to clear the warning message.
Note: This warning is not activated when the oil temperature is
on the high side of the ready range. See "W7 -- Oil Too Hot"
warning below.
It is understood that placing food into the oil will immediately
cause a temperature drop -- possibly dropping the temperature
out of the Ready range by the time the start button is pressed.
For this reason, the controller does not check the temperature
only at the moment the cook cycle is started. Instead, the "Was
Not Ready" warning is activated only if the oil temperature was
below the Ready range for an entire N-second period (typ. 60
seconds) before the start button was pressed.

Error Codes
Description
A "Slow Cook" Warning is generated at the conclusion of a
cook cycle if the actual, elapsed time of that cook cycle
exceeds a warning limit for that particular product.
The elapsed time of any cook cycle can be more or less than
the programmed time due to the Load Compensation feature.
This feature, which helps assure consistent product doneness,
automatically runs the cooking timer countdown more slowly
when the temperature drops lower than normal.
A bigger-than-normal product load will generally result in a
deeper-than-normal temperature drop, which in turn will result
in a longer-than-normal cook time (due to load compensation).
However, anything that reduces the heating capacity -- such as
a failed element or bad contactor -- will also result in a deeperthan-normal temperature drop, and also will result in stretched
cook time.
In the case of the W-4 warning, the controller has already
determined that the heating elements and voltage appear okay,
and that the fryer was in the Ready range at the start of the
cook cycle. Since no other cause is found to explain the slow
cooking problem, it is presumed that the user was either trying
to cook too much product at once, or was cooking product that
was frozen when it shouldn't have been (pressure fryer only).
Press the "Cancel" button (#2) to clear the Slow Cook warning.
Unless a "Discard" warning was displayed just before the Slow
Cook warning, the food is acceptable for use.

(See W-4 above for details about how the Load Compensation
feature can stretch cook time.)
In the case of the W-6 warning the controller has already
determined that the voltage appears okay and that the fryer
was in the Ready range at the start of the cook cycle.
However, if the most recent heat-up activated a "Slow Heat-up"
warning, the controller will presume there is a problem with the
heating coils or contactors, etc. Consequently, the controller
will assume the Slow Cook problem is actually the result of a
heat capacity problem.
Press the "Cancel" button (#2) to clear the Slow Cook warning.
Unless a "Discard" warning was displayed just before the Slow
Cook warning, the food is acceptable for use.

Error Codes
Description
Electric Fryer Only:
The "Low Amps" warning is activated if the amperage reading
(electrical current) for any of the three amps sensors falls below
the CFA-26 "MIN ACCEPT. AMPS" setting (when the heat
output is on).
The Min and Max amps limits are set automatically when the
"Fryer Supply Volts" setting (step T-11) is programmed in Tech
Mode.
To view the Min and Max amps limits, activate Info Mode by
pressing INFO and PROG at the same time, then press INFO
once to circle around to the Amps display on the last step.
Press the DOWN button to view the Low Limit. Press DOWN a
second time to view the High Limit.
Under most circumstances, this warning is not the result of a
low voltage situation, as the W-1 "LOW VOLTAGE" warning
takes precedence over this "LOW AMPS" warning. Typically,
this warning would result from a contactor problem, a failed
heating element, a wrong wattage or wrong voltage element, or
some other wiring problem.
When the warning message is displayed the actual amps
values are shown. If the heat is presently on and one or more
of the readings is still too low, the warning display will show
"NOW xx xx xx", indicating that the fault condition is still
present. In this case, the three amps readings are "live"
values, indicating the present reading for each amps sensor.
If the heat is not presently on, or if it is on now but all three
amps readings are presently okay, then the warning message
will show "WAS xx xx xx". In this case, the three amps
readings displayed are "latched" values from the last time the
fault condition was observed.
W-7 Possible Causes:
1. Wrong "Fryer Supply Volts" setting. The controller sets the
Min and Max Amps Limits based on the programmed
Voltage setting. Check Tech Mode step T-11 and confirm
the nominal voltage is set correctly.
2. Wrong wattage heating element installed, failed heating
element, bad connection, or bad contactor, etc.
3. Fault in the amperage monitoring circuits.
Note: All Amps errors can be disabled by simply unplugging
the transducer harness. Do this ONLY if you are absolutely
certain that the problem is due to a defective current transducer
assembly and not a fault in the fryer.

Description
A "Discard" Warning is generated at the conclusion of a cook
cycle if the actual, elapsed time of that cook cycle exceeds the
absolute maximum allowed for that particular product.
"OVER-COOKED"
(See W-4 above for details about how the Load Compensation
feature can stretch cook time.)
If the overall duration of a cook cycle exceeds the programmed
Discard limit, the controller will -- at the end of the cook cycle -begin displaying the Discard warning message and sounding a
continuous pulsed tone. This "discard" tone is distinctly
different from the normal "warbling" warning tone.
Press the "Cancel" button (#2) to clear the Discard warning. In
most cases, the Discard warning will be immediately followed
by a Slow Cook warning, which will try to identify the root cause
of the cooking problem.
In the case of a Discard warning, the food is to be discarded
immediately and not served. Even though the color of the
product may look acceptable, the product has cooked so long
that it is too dry (internally) to be considered acceptable.

"OIL TOO HOT"
"338F"
(actual oil temp.)
Error Codes
Description
The "Oil Too Hot" warning is activated if the oil temperature is
above the Ready range (setpoint + 15F) at the start of a cook
cycle.
Note: This warning is not intended to imply a hazardous
situation, or imply that the oil is overheated to an unsafe level.
Rather, it is simply indicating that the oil is too hot for the
product being cooked.
If the oil is above the Ready range at the start of a cook cycle,
the controller sounds a continuous warbling tone and
alternately displays "OIL TOO HOT" and the current oil
temperature.
Unlike other warnings, the "Oil Too Hot" warning cannot be
canceled by pressing the "Cancel" (#2) button. Instead, the
warning message and alarm tone continue until the
temperature drops down into the acceptable temperature
range, or until the end of the cook cycle is reached. (On
Pressure Fryers, the alarm will also stop if a second cook
interval is reached.)
In most cases, the product load will cause the temperature to
drop fairly quickly, so the "Oil Too Hot" display will generally
cancel itself pretty soon unless the oil temperature was way
over setpoint at the start.
All normal cooking functions continue in the background during
this warning, so as soon as the Oil Too Hot warning clears, the
normal cook display will return.

Error Codes
Error Codes
Error Code displays generally result from some hardware problem or anomaly. The
E-15 Drain Open code is an exception, as it is really the result of operator error: opening
the drain when the fryer is turned on, or turning the fryer on when the drain is open.
When an error code is generated, the error code itself (i.e. "E-15") is displayed in the left
side of the display window, and a descriptive message ("DRAIN IS OPEN") is displayed
in the right side. The speaker sounds "whoop-whoop-whoop-whoop-whoop" followed
by a quiet pause (about 10 seconds or so), then repeats.
Press any button to acknowledge the error and silence the alarm. Some error codes
will vanish as soon as they are acknowledged, while other codes will remain for as long
as the hardware problem persists.
Error Codes -- Order of Priority
The following table lists the order of priority for the error codes in the Chick-fil-A
Pressure Fryers and Open Fryers. When multiple errors are detected simultaneously,
only the highest priority error code is reported. If that error is corrected or otherwise
vanishes, then the next highest priority error code will be reported.
