THE ALCHEMY

INTRODUCCION
Alchemy is an influential tradition whose practitioners have, from antiquity, claimed it to
be the precursor to profound powers.
Definitions of the objectives of alchemy are varied but historically have typically
included one or more of the following goals: the creation of the fabled philosopher's
stone; the ability to transmute base metals into the noble metals (gold or silver); and
development of an elixir of life, which would confer youth and longevity.

THE ALCHEMY
In the history of science, alchemy is an ancient practice and a philosophical discipline
combining elements of chemistry, metallurgy, physics, medicine, astrology, semiotics,
mysticism, spiritualism and art. The alchemy was practiced in Mesopotamia, Ancient
Egypt, Persia, India and China, in ancient Greece and the Roman Empire, the Islamic
Empire and later in Europe until the eighteenth century, in a complex network of
schools and philosophical systems it spans at least 2500 years.
Western alchemy has always been closely connected with Hermeticism, a
philosophical and spiritual system that has its roots in Hermes Trimegisto, a syncretic
deity and legendary alchemist grecoegipcia. These two disciplines influenced the birth
of Rosacrusismo, an important esoteric movement of the seventeenth century. During
the early modern era, the dominant alchemy evolved into the current chemistry.
Currently it is of interest to historians of science and philosophy, as well as its mystical,
esoteric and artistic aspects. Alchemy was a major precursor of the modern sciences,
and many of the chemicals, tools and processes ancient alchemy have served as
pillars of modern chemical and metallurgical industries.
Although alchemy takes many forms, in popular culture is cited most often in stories,
movies, shows and games like the process used to transform lead (or other elements)
in gold. Another form that alchemy is the search for the philosopher's stone, with which
he was able to achieve the ability to transmute gold or eternal life.
