Introduction
TheAutocompletefeatureprovidescloudcustomerswithcontextbased
suggestionsthatarebasedontoplocalPrimoandPrimoCentralqueries,aswell
asdatafromyourlocalPrimoinstitutionandthePrimoCentralindex.Formore
information,seeAutocompleteIndexingandSearchingonpage6.
IftheAutocompletefeatureisenabledforasearchscope,thePrimoFrontEnd
requestssuggestionsfromtheAutocompleteserviceasuserstypeintheir
queries,andthendisplaysthesuggestionsunderthesearchbox.Forexample:

Autocomplete Indexing and Searching


Thedataharvestedfromcustomersisstoredindedicatedserversperregionin
theExLibriscloud.ThedataincludestopqueriesfromPrimosearches(local
andcentral).ItalsoincludesdatafromcustomersandPrimoCentral.Thedata
fromcustomers(authors,titlesandsubjects)isindexedpertheinstitution
whichmeansthatallPNXrecordsinwhichthesearch/searchscopefield
containstheinstitutioncodeareincluded.ThedatafromPrimoCentral
(subjectsandjournaltitles)isindexedseparately.
TheAutocompleteindexandserviceusestandardPrimosearchengine
technologyandmanyfeaturessuchasnormalizationofcharacters,
typographicalerrorcorrection,andhighlighting.Theservicerankssuggestions
usingPrimosrankingalgorithm.Additionalboostingisprovidedifsuggestions
matchtopqueriesinPrimoandWikipedia.
Primowilltrytooffercontextbasedsuggestions,whichmeansthatonlypartof
thedataintheAutocompleteindexisusedtoprovidesuggestionsasfollows:

BeforeyoucanusetheAutocompletefunctionality,youmustregisteryour
institutionwiththeAutocompleteservice.Afterregistration,youcanenablethe
serviceforallsearchscopes(perview)andthendisabletheserviceforspecific
searchscopesifnotneeded.

Registering Your Institution


RegisteringaPrimoinstitutionwiththeAutocompleteserviceenablesPrimoto
generatecontentfromthelocalPrimoindex,whichincludesalltitles,subjects,
andauthorsfromrecordsthatbelongtotheregisteredinstitution(basedonthe
institutionscope).
Afterregistration,PrimoautomaticallygeneratestheAutocompletecontentat
theendofeachscheduledindexingandasynchronouslyuploadsthecontentto
therelevantregionsAutocompleteindexintheExLibriscloud.Thegeneration
itselftakesonlyafewminutes.
IfAutocompleteisactivatedintheFrontEndbeforethedatahasbeenindexed,
suggestionswillbebasedontopqueriesandPrimoCentraldataonly.After
indexing,itmaytakeuptotwodaystoreceivesuggestionsthatarebasedon
localcontent.
NOTE:
Thesystemwillreharvestthelocalindexwhenevernew/updatedrecords
causea10percentchangeintheindex.Reindexingfromscratchwillalso
triggerareharvest.

To register an institution for the Autocomplete service:

OnthePrimoHome>OngoingConfigurationWizards>InstitutionWizard
page,clickEditnexttotheinstitutionthatyouwanttoregisterforthe
Autocompleteservice.
TheEditInstitutionpageopens.

Saveyourchangestotheinstitution.

DeployyourchangestotheFrontEnd.

Enabling the Autocomplete Service for a View


AfteryouhaveregisteredyourinstitutionwiththeAutocompleteservice,you
mustenabletheserviceperviewintheViewsWizard.Thisoptionenablesthe
serviceforallsearchscopes.Ifyouwouldliketodisabletheserviceforaspecific
searchscope,seeDisablingAutocompleteServiceforaSearchScopeon
page10.

Disabling Autocomplete Service for a Search Scope


OncetheAutocompleteserviceisenabledperview,itisenabledforallsearch
scopes.Inscopeswithverylimiteddata(forexample,acoursereservesscope),
itmaybenecessarytodeactivatetheservicepersearchscopeifitislikelythat
suggestionswillresultinsearcheswithnoresults.
To disable the Autocomplete service for a search scope:

OnthePrimoHome>OngoingConfigurationWizards>ViewsWizard
page,clickEditnexttotheviewyouwanttoconfigure.

ClickSave&Continue.
TheSearchScopeListpageopens.

ClickEditnexttothesearchscopeforwhichyouwanttodisablethe
Autocompleteservice.
