but most of all he was a faith-
ful husband, and devoted fa-

Springs Community Night
On April 15th, Community Night will be
held from 6-9 pm at the Cedar Springs High
School. An army of volunteers will set the stage
for this big social event. The team has enlisted
the help of local and surrounding area busi-

serving our community. Booths are still avail-
able for $25. This social event celebrates spring
and honors all the hard working, participat-
ing businesses, agencies, organizations and
schools. The Community Night Volunteers are

How to avoid Census Bureau Scams
Listed below are a few tips for con-
sumers who may be approached by cen-
sus surveyors. There are many scams
that could occur during census season
and the information listed below can as-
sist consumers with avoiding scams. The
information listed here and more can be
found at www.census.gov.
Q. Why is an ACS field represen-
tative visiting my home?
A. In order to collect the required
information, we use a multi-part mail
strategy coupled with telephone calls
and personal visits, if necessary. First,
we send a pre-notice letter to let house-
holds know that they will soon receive a
questionnaire. In order to improve re-
sponse, we send a replacement question-
naire to non-respondents about three
weeks after the initial questionnaire was
delivered. If we do not receive a complet-
ed questionnaire after the replacement
questionnaire is delivered, we may refer
the case to one of our call centers. Since
many people work during the week, the
telephone interviewers call non-respon-
dents in the evening and on weekends.
If we are unable to reach an address by
telephone, we may send one of our field
representatives to the address to com-
plete the interview in person.

urges pet and
livestock owners
to vaccinate
against rabies
LANSING —The Michigan
Department of Agriculture’s
(MDA) State Veterinarian Dr.
Steven Halstead today urged
Michigan citizens to be pro-active
and have their pets and livestock
vaccinated against rabies and
other diseases after confirmation
that a horse in Lapeer County
tested positive for rabies.
“It is essential pet and live-
stock owners take steps to vac-
cinate against rabies and other
diseases because of the possibili-
ty human exposure to the disease
from interaction with infected
horses, cattle, dogs, and cats,”
Dr. Halstead said. “By working
with their veterinarian, owners
can take significant steps toward
providing a safe and healthy en-
vironment for their families and
animals.”
A quarantine was issued on
the Lapeer County horse farm
and will be monitored by county
animal control officers. Feral cats
and any pet cat on the premises
showing clinical signs consistent
with rabies or with a history of
biting someone within the pre-
vious 10 days will be tested. Six
people, including the owner,
trainer, and veterinarian, that
may have been exposed to the
rabid horse are receiving a se-
ries of preventative rabies shots.
No other humans or animals are
known to have been exposed at
this time.
