Math Club does not meet on non-school days: April 7 (Spring Break)

Imagine if...the only time a child was encouraged to read was during the 45 minutes of reading class time in
school. Would he be a strong reader? Would she be a lover of books by the time she reached high school?
Imagine if...the only time a child was encouraged to do math was during math class time in school. Would he
really love and understand math by the time he reached high school? Would she ever imagine a career associated
with math, such as engineering, architecture or financial analysis?
Math Club is facilitated by Twain teachers who follow the Explorations in Math program to show students how math is
relevant to their lives. The goal is to make math fun! This fall, both age groups will cover Geometry.
Discovering Geometry (Grades 1-2) & Exploring Geometry (Grades 3-5): Students learn shape recognition & the
properties of polygons. (1-2) Students become familiar with shapes through activities that relate them to the natural
world, through constellations, and the real world, through everyday signage. Further discovery using art and the
alphabet is performed to explore the properties of symmetry. (3-5) Students learn shape recognition and the properties
of polygons. They also explore the properties of circles, triangles, and quadrilaterals through various engaging
activities such as constructing flying polygons using nothing but popsicle sticks.
Math Club costs $40 for one 10-week session. Please make checks payable to Mark Twain PTSA. Space is limited and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Classroom locations will be sent upon registration.
*Student Withdrawal from Class: Full refund granted to any student who withdraws up to 2 days after the first class.
Otherwise, no refunds.

Mark Twain Elementary After School Programs Refund and Behavior Policy
Refunds: A full refund will be granted to any student who withdraws up to 2 days after the first class. Otherwise, no
refunds unless initiated by PTSA.
Behavior Policy: Mark Twain PTSA organizes after school programs to offer students enrichment programs
conveniently located at the school. We insist that students respect the instructor and act in an appropriate manner,
and that guardians be on time to pick up students at the end of each session.
If your student has behavior issues which are disruptive to the class, or is not picked up in a timely manner, we will
issue you a warning. If there is a second incident, we will be forced to terminate your students participation in the
program. A refund for remaining sessions will not be granted.
