HEADS….NOW ABOUT LACK OF FRESH WATER !
In 2006 it was believed the INTERSTATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM within the United States
of America existed of 46,876 miles (75,440 km) PLUS the Buildings owned by
Federal, State, County, City Governmental agencies must have BILLIONS OF
SQUARE FEET OF ROOF SPACE where RAINWATER could or should be harvested or
piped perhaps into SANITARY SEWER LINES and fed to sewage treatment plants to be
recycled as RECLAIMED WATER or even tapped off for irrigation and making Potable
water at lesser cost than buying BILLIONS OF GALLONS OF DESALINATED WATER
all across the Nation or FRESH WATER from other States to make up the fresh water
needs of highly populated areas.\

Today, Monday the 22 Day of March, 2010, while returning from a backflow
testing assignment I noticed the Interstate 275, Interstate 75, Interstate 4 plus
Cross-town Expressway MILES AND MILES OF BARE CONCRETE WHICH WOULD
RECEIVE ALL OF THE HEAVY RAINFALL IN TAMPA, plus considered each and
every roadway where more RAINWATER DRAINS were perhaps located then
wondered WHY our Government entities keep using extra fresh water purchased
from perhaps the largest DESALINATION PLANT on the Planet South of Tampa on
41 yet ALL entities never HARVEST the amazing fresh water rainfall from Federal,
State, County, Municipal ENTITIES who have huge potential for saving TRILLIONS
OF GALLONS OF FRESH WATER turning same into Water Department Usage for

 even drinking water, Irrigation water and extra water to sewage treatment plants to
be used for RECLAIM WATER without perhaps spending BILLIONS OF DOLLARS
for buying water from other sources.

ONE INCH OF RAINFALL might be equal to the following but I will have to check with a Specialist perhaps at Channel 10, 13,
or

even 8 if not the NOAA Weather people :

Rainfall in inches is actually cubic inches. So, in a 1 acre plot (1 acre = 4,046.85642 square meters), 1 Inch of rain or 0.0254
meters would be:

4046 x 0.0254 = 102.78 cubic meters of water

1 (cubic meter) = 264.172051 US gallons

so 102.78 cubic meters = 27,000 gallons / acre / inch

I don't know enough about agriculture to sanity check this number, but I've included the steps so you can spot any
mistakes.

Also, I'd be willing to bet that drip irrigation, being more efficient, would require a factor of magnitude less water.

Now let us assume how many SQARE METERS ON TAMPA INTERSTATES funnel
the rainwater all over the City and NONE is
harvested into deep bladder units, underground or above ground taks or diverted
to be pumped into City Water Sewage treatment plants or recycled water plants
thus the City and County MUST BUY water when BILLIONS OF GALLONS are
readily available from downspouts and drains on Interstate systems, roofs of
buildings.
ANYONE THINKING OF HOW MUCH MONEY COULD BE SAVED HARVESTING THE
RAINWATER FROM BUILDINGS AND ROADS OR IS THIS SOMETHING NO ONE
HAS THOUGHT OF IN THE LAST 30 YEARS OR SO ? A jail or correctional
facility has X number of square feet ROOF space and planting rows and rows of
food in open areas to be irrigated with drip irrigation from underground storage
areas like LIFT STATIONS SUPER DEEP AND WIDE would save HOW MUCH
MONEY FOR THE STATE ?
County PARKS could have collectors for storm water or rain water to use for
irrigation purposes at what savings ?
County SCHOOLS could collect and harvest RAINWATER then use same for
irrigation or other projects like farming at what Savings in dollars ?

Home owners, Military, Scouts, Veteran’s Groups COULD really help give the
American People a view in what American’s had to contend with back in the
1930’s when all water was precious, no running water, no massive sewer lines
and rainwater was declared PRECIOUS and harvested for all needs. Today
those BILLIONS UPON BILLIONS OF GALLONS OF FRESH RAINWATER COULD
SAVE CITIES, COUNTIES, STATES AND FEDERAL ENTITIES BILLIONS OF
DOLLARS !
Anyone OUT THERE thinking of SAVING BILLIONS ? Better study hard the SOLAR
STILL and PLANT TRANSPIRATION for the next major Hurricane, Earthquake OR
Flood as these items will all have to be used and not too many of the YOUNGER
GENERATION KNOW HOW TO GET WATER FROM A HOLE IN THE GROUND OR
PLANT LEAVES LET ALONE WHAT TO DO WITH WATER CAUGHT IN 55
GALLON DRUMS FROM RAINWATER AND HOW TO MAKE IT WARM FOR A
SHOWER WITHOUT ELECTRICITY OR GAS. Not many will know how us OLD
TIMERS lived with OUT HOUSES, LATRINES, WELLS WITH HAND PUMPS, OIL
LAMPS, CANDLES, FIRES FOR COOKING OR SIMPLY EATING CANNED FOODS,
VEGGIES, SODA’S AND PRAYING FOR THE ELECTRICITY TO RETURN LIKE THE
PEOPLE IN HAITI AT THIS VERY MOMENT !
RIGHT NOW THOSE READING THESE LINES ARE THINKING ---- The man writing
this sure is the same one who told US to take off the Faucet Aerators as the
bacteria counts were dangerous. AMAZING BUT HOW MANY OF YOU TOOK
THEM OFF AT YOUR OWN HOME OR BUSINESS LOCATION ???
IF the same man told you the GREEN WATER YOU REPORTED TO HIM COMING
FROM THE FAUCET OR WATER FOUNTAIN IS NOT IN CELEBRATION OF ST.
PATRICK’S DAY you might not understand GREEN WATER usually means there
is ANTIFREEZE PUSHING BACK INTO THE WATER.
One day I had to shut OFF the main water to a BANK at Church and Neptune near
the Fire Station when people were drawing GREEN WATER from a water fountain
and called my firm we arrived with years of experience and immediately knew
what the danger was to this entire building and all present. Immediately we
questioned exactly when this was noticed and it was ONLY A FEW MOMENTS
AGO NOTICED as the office personnel were filling their coffee pot ladle made of
clear glass. My JOB was clear, shut down the water and immediately call Harry
Smith Tampa Water Department to ask about shutting down the building and IF I
should drain water BACKWARDS OUTSIDE AT THE METER plus notify all
tenants. Mr. Harry Smith, Tampa Water Department advised IMMEDIATELY TO
SHUT DOWN THE BUILDING SOURCE OF WATER AND MARK EVERYTHING OUT
OF SERVICE ON ALL LEVELS BECAUSE THE PROBLEM WAS A BACKFLOW
PREVENTION ASSEMBLY L E A K I N G BACKWARDS INTO THE POTABLE
WATER SYSTEM PUTTING ANTIFREEZE CHILLED WATER SYSTEM MATERIALS
INTO THE COFFEE POTS AND INTO PEOPLE’S MOUTHS ! How many lives were
SAVED ?

Professional who disconnected all incoming water and the meter from the
building …. Professionally a responsibility and knowledge issue but necessary
to save lives!

drums or plastic storage items such as 5 gallon containers capturing or harvesting fresh water was a thought for washing or drinking when
