Task: Review the various articles and the video excerpt to provide a thorough, well developed
response to the following questions.
Article: After the War
1.

Who is Mohasen? Identify the challenges she has experienced as an Iraqi refugee in
America.
Mohasen is a dance teacher who teaches the art of ballet. Mohasen is one of
the nearly 59,000 Iraqis who have been officially resettled in the U.S. since
2007. She reached challenges like prejudice like discrimination, and job woes
for example. Many people are working at flipping burgers, party stores, or
unemployed. Many suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder or other mental

illnesses
2. Where are the majority of Iraqi refugees settling in the United States and what resources
are available to them?
The majority were settled in Michigan, near the great lakes
3. The article states people had these changes in status. What is meant by this and provide
examples to support.
The people had well-paying jobs like being doctors, or nurses, or lawyers or
APRNs, and they were uber important. Now in America, they dont have the
same lifestyle. They have icky jobs like being global teachers or flipping
burgers.
4. What led many Iraqis to seek refuge in America? Does it appear they will be able to attain
the American Dream?
The Iraqis sought refuge in Murica because they know it is the land of the free
and the home of the brave. And Honey Boo Boo. That is why they want refuge
in Murica because it seems that they will live the American Dream, but they
didnt. They lose.

Since the U.S. invasion of Iraq a great humanitarian crisis has emerged in the form of
refugees. Where are some Iraq people forced to seek refuge?
To Syria and other countries.

6. What three alternatives do Iraqis have and what are specific challenges with each?
The cant afford the price of life to remain. They must return, remain, or
resettle. But all are bad choices.
7. What is the estimated cost to properly care and handle the Iraqi refugee crisis? What do
many countries such as Syria believe Americas responsibility is during all of this?
$2 Billion annually. They believe that the US started the war.
8. What are some specific challenges Iraqis experiences as refugees in Middle Eastern
Countries?
There is much conflict and disagreement in the Middle Eastern Countries.

Compare and contrast life as a refugee for Iraqis in the United States and Middle Eastern

The video clip provides a brief insight into some challenges for Iraqi students. What are
some major issues Iraqi students experiences with respect to getting an education? Would
this be a problem for refugees in America? Explain.
They wont get an education as well as they would if they didnt have to
resettle. They had much emotional and psychological pressures on them and
they would get into trouble. There was much prejudice, too.

11. In your opinion, where do you see Iraq in terms of success ten years from now? Provide
specific reasoning.
Iraqs success was most likely based solely on exports to America such as its
surplus of oil. The water, hospital, dispatching, and security were very weak, so
they didnt have too many luxuries. Life wasnt very good.

12. Identify and explain 5 problems that are present since the U.S. withdrawal from Iraq?
Which do you believe is the biggest problem and why?
1. The troops retained the embassy in Baghdad.
2. They said they left Iraq stable
3. The US only had one remaining soldier
4. The education, energy, and trade were weaker.
5. The post-war alliance was slightly shaky.
The biggest problem is that they left Iraq more stable because before it was
highly unstable
13.In your opinion, did it appear Iraq was better off under the dictatorship of Saddam
Husseins reign or after? I.e. better under the dictatorship of the democracy? Explain.
I believe that Iraq was not better off because Hussein was a cruel and
oppressive dictator, and they would be better off being ruled by anyone else.
Husseins people were tortured, murdered, and miserable due to his actions. As
he was taken from power, it was a brighter day in Iraq. After Saddam Hesseins
reign, everything was still better.

Article: 6 Months after U.S. combat troops left, can Iraq go it alone?
14. Despite the many challenges with Iraqi Reconstruction, what evidence is there to suggest
a brighter future is on the horizon for Iraq? Be specific.

The evidence of a brighter future is that Hussein no longer reigns over the
country. Also, it seems that the United States went in to train Iraq into a
better nation. Plus Britain gave them a more democratic government.
15.Identify specific political challenges that must be addressed in Iraq. Consider various
groups such as Sunni Muslims, Shiite Muslims and Kurds?
Political challenges would include that they are a nation in the Middle East,
where there is much conflict surrounding them. Everything is separated off.
The Shiite and Sunni Muslims are always fighting, so it causes the nation to
struggle.
