Course Guidelines:
1
The extent to which you will learn in this class depends on your own initiative and your
taking responsibility for your learning.
It is very important that you read the assigned material before class. Most classes will
involve exercises and discussions that assume you are already familiar with the
chapter/article. Being properly prepared for class will maximize your benefit from the
exercises and enhance your class participation grade.
Class participation carries a high weight in the course grade and students will have to earn
these grades. Positive participation grades are earned through active contribution to class
discussion and not just for attending class.
Unacceptable and distracting behavior during class such as chatting with neighbors, use
of laptops, phones and other devices will result in negative participation grades.

Attendance
As stated in the university catalog, students are expected to attend class; there is no system
of permitted absences. Students may not normally receive credit for a course if more than
three weeks of classes (or their equivalent in summer school) are missed.
Students are also expected to be very punctual. However, there is a 10 minute grace period at
the beginning of class, after which no student is admitted to class regardless of the excuse.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Quizzes will take place in the first 10 minutes of class time. If you
come 10 minutes late, you will be allowed to attend class but you will lose your quiz grade.
For a complete explanation of AUCs attendance policy, please refer to the university
Catalog.
